Hey, Bedford. Can you stop this guy?
Kelly Kerr/Tulsa World

Fans of OU and OSU football need a championship contender to adopt as they continue to follow their teams to places where the sun doesn't shine, chilly bowls or basketball season.

OU is an underdog at Missouri and could lose to Texas and Oklahoma State in the same year!

Homers say OU's defense is better. They have to say that. It's the way a homer's brain works. They block out reality. They see Iowa and Georgia on the backs of uniforms actually worn by Mid Tennessee, Iowa State and Colorado.

Oklahoma State couldn't stop the horn section in the band.

When does repeated defensive failure become a coordinating issue?

Stoping somebody to win a big game at home is this simple: Blitz them for the love of Pistol Pete!

You can't sit back and hope for a lucky break.

Tulsa is a possibility as a championship-type team for OU and OSU fans to adopt the last half of this year.

But TU is at Houston in two weeks in toss-up, literally, the way Houston throws it around.

Arkansas is handy and entertaining. But the fans are a bit much.

Rutger is too close to ESPN.

How about Louisville as a dark horse?

In baseball matters, the truth strikes out.

If the Tarred and Feathered Hand Incident wasn't covered up to save the World Series, we'd miss our guess.

Anybody interested in a browse with greatness might want to scroll back to the time and date and score of the major Tampa over Philly upset prediction last week.
Wolfie (6 years ago)
Yes, Mr. Picker, you are a man of great vision.
Jeremy (6 years ago)
Before you take too much credit for the upset pcik, remember that Tampa needed a 62 yd FG to pull it off...only the 3rd longest in NFL history.

I can't say much though, as you've beaten me two weeks in a row now. The prize tier is slipping away...

OU deserves to be a dog at Mizzou, and will prolly lose by 10 or so.

The only thing more hopeless than OSU football is watching Coach Gundy try to explain what happened in the press conference.

TU is good. Not great. Time will tell how good.

Texas was lucky to escape Lincoln with a W.

I will back Arkansas...love their character.

Hey Picker,

What do you think about these rumors of North Carolina's supposed interest in Kragthorpe?

I know this won't happen, but if I was Bubba Cunningham, I'd cough and mutter "Buzz Peterson" when the UNC AD called. Then I'd hang up.
Gene (6 years ago)
Mr. Picker, your sugestion as to adopting TU because of the dismal state of affairs at the Oklahoma Football Factories is a great one. Especially to those who live in this area.

One other thing, would you please explain how many picks you got right in Week 8. Looks to me like you only got six?????

tab: the coaching game of musical benches is about to start, isn't it.

you would think tu's k could get a better job than coaching football and filling basketballs at carolina, wouldn't you?

he should sit quietly until a top 25 job flies open.

the stoops to dallas rumors are wild again.

why would anybody in his right mind want to coach a pro football or basketball team where some player/punk being paid five times more will be happy to tell you what to do with your game plan.

the guy at the dolphins is as tough as they come, saban from lsu, and he's about ready for the looney bin.

spurrier left the pros on a gurney.

is jimmy johnson the only college coach to do anything among the nut cases? and that was back when.

in this day and age, a good college coach should have his head examined before taking a pro job.

jeremy: that's some nice argument you had on the brilliant tampa upset.

one question: had the field goal missed, who would have covered?

oh. yeah. tampa.

be sure and check the contest results again this week. out of some 1,700 entries, about 35 beat the genius of the picker.

that's impossible. was impossible.
Wolfie (6 years ago)
The Picker's Plan:
1. Hook the multitudes in the early weeks by making them think they have a chance at the TV.
2. Slowly drop them to the consolation prize level... a t-shirt emblazoned with
the caricature of Mr. Picker.

Jeremy (6 years ago)
Picker: I recall you using the word "upset" in your language...not the word "cover. I realize that a pcik is with the spread, but you were talking about the outright upset. Anyway, you made a good pick and whooped my butt, so cased closed.

I agree that most college coaches that have the "credentials" to go to the NFL would be smart to stay put in college. You'd think that Stoopsie has gotten an earful a time or two from Spurrier about the pro game. It's prolly more intelligent to coach in the NFL for a few seasons in a corrdinator or postition role to get accustomed to the TO's out there.

Is Nebraska over OSU a done deal? Or, will the Pokes take advantage of a Husker hangover after the heartbreaking loss to UT? It might be good logic, but the Cowboys suffered their own version of heartbreak city. Huskers by 14.

Gene (6 years ago)
Mr. Picker . . . I am at a lose to understand your victory over everyone last week. I don't think you had more than six. Would you please go over each of the games in the contest and explain to me how you excelled.
louisrams (6 years ago)
Where the heck is this weeks pick form? Losing too much? Seriously, I'm kind of annoyed. You can't get to the form anywhere from tulsaworld.com. Apparently it doesn't exist this week. NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
canester2002 (6 years ago)
louisrams: I am having the same problem with no link showing up on the TW site. My bookmark shows the link for the pick form is tulsaworld.com/contests/2006/picker/PickerContestform.asp
...I couldn't type the paste the entire address because the site blocks links. Go figure.
louisrams (6 years ago)
Thanks for trying. It didn't work for me. I'm pretty annoyed because I have 6 wins. As if the contest isn't stack enough against the readers already now they won't even let you play!
world picker (6 years ago)
Yeah, right, blame The Picker beating 98 percent of all entries on a lightning strike.

Note to Gene: Our record last week was 10-5-1.

We showed the list of picks and point spreads to Mrs. Jones' first grade class and they all understood.

Where'd you go to school, Gene, off-shore?

Gene (6 years ago)
Mr. Picker, I went to school in North Dakota and that is as far away from the shore as one can get. And Mrs. Jones was a geat teacher.

Not to beat a dead horse; I think you got OU - 12; Tulsa - 12; Arkansas - 15X; Michigan - 13X; Texas Tech -2X; and Atlanta + 2. You pushed on Cincinnati and lost the rest. Didn't you?

world picker (6 years ago)
Gene, Gene, Gene: Your brain is still frozen.

Thursday, we run the picks against the point spread used in the contest.

To recap, Friday we run a little box with the Picker's picks outlined in black.

We can feel your heartache. You want us to miss a few on purpose this week?
