Advantage: Bowling Green. Why? Superman's Mom

With the GMAC bowl on the verge of kickoff, I have attempted to handicap the game based on whether Bowling Green or the University of Tulsa has more impressive alumni.
Let’s start the countdown and exclude politicians for the sake of, well, do we really need a reason to exclude politicians?
First, the Bowling Greeners:
--Bernie Casey once was an NFL receiver, but he turned to acting and he was the national head of the Tri Lamb fraternity in the film “Revenge of the Nerds.” He was also in “Brian’s Song” and was in one of the James Bond flicks.
--Tim Conway was great on the Carol Burnett Show, especially in the Mr. Tudball and Missus Whiggins skits. Big points for the Bowling Green folks here.
--Many great hockey players attending Bowling Green. Among them was “Miracle on Ice” participant Mark Wells and hockey hall of famer Ken Morrow. Other prominent athletes who attended Bowling Green were Nate Thurmond (chosen one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history) and baseball players Orel Hershiser and Doug Barr (who played on the ‘82 Cardinal and ‘84 Tiger World Series teams).
--Actor Robert Patrick played the mean old shape-changing android who didn’t know when to stop pursuing in “Terminator 2.” He also was Johnny Cash’s mean old dad in “Walk The Line.” And, he is one of two Bowling Greeners who showed up from time to time in the TV series “X-Files.” The other is James Pickens, Jr., who also plays Dr. Richard Webber in “Grey’s Anatomy.”
--Oakland (Mich.) basketball coach Greg Kampe is a Bowling Green alum. He already broke the hearts of Tulsans once in a Mid-Con basketball final a few years ago.
--Eva Marie Saint won a best supporting actress Oscar for her performance in “On the Waterfront.” Even more impressive, she was Kal-El’s foster mom, Martha Kent, in “Superman Returns.”
Now let’s list some TU alums and we’ll skip the star athletes like Nancy Lopez and Steve Largent and coaches like Lovie Smith, Ray Rhodes and Sam Rutigliano (a Browns coach from the 1970s) because most Tulsans know all about them already.
--S.E. Hinton wrote one of the most popular young adult books of all time (“The Outsiders”) and it was filmed in Tulsa. True story: When another Hinton book was filmed in Tulsa, actor Emilio Estevez stumbled into the neighborhood of Mike Bilbow for a pick-up basketball game. Bilbow does the film work for TU athletics nowadays and wears shorts regardless of the temperature outside. But, back to Hinton, “The Outsiders” is the favorite book of former TU basketball player and good guy/enforcer Jarius Glenn and that should be reason enough for you to like it.
--Gordon Matthews invented voice mail. Please leave a message at the beep.
--Actress Rue McClanahan was in “Golden Girls” and has a long list of credits.
--Dr. Phil, believe it or not, was born in Vinita and attended TU. Straight up, TU should trade him to UMass for Dr. J.
--Actor Gailord Sartain got his start here on local television and has been in many movies, including “The Outsiders.” He also was a regular on the television show “Hee-Haw.”
--Mary Kay Place is an actress, singer, director and song writer who got a big career boost when she was a production assistant to Bowling Green alum Tim Conway. If they can get along, then surely TU and Bowling Green fans can co-exist as well.
--Actor Wade Williams is Capt. Brad Bellick on the current TV show “Prison Break.”
--Russ Myers created the comic strip “Broom Hilda.” Coincidentally, he shares a name with Southern Hills superintendent Russ Myers, who did not attend TU.
Taking only football into consideration, I predict TU will win 48-46. If the quality of alums counts for anything, it’s Bowling Green by a score of 52-48. Reason: How can you pick against Superman’s mom?

Well, how about eating mucho CROW! TU just barely won by 56 points. And give me the TU graduates anytime against those from the Bowling Balls from OhOHO

What I meant to write is that TU will win 63-7 regardless of circumstances. And Paul Smith wore a blue jersey and everyone knows that blue kryptonite has zero effect on superman. It's green K and gold K which really zaps the big fellow, with red K having a different effect on him every time.

I think, but am not sure, that Paul Harvy also attended Tulsa University.

You forgot Howard Komives in your bubble gum state university list. he was a guard in the early 60's. might have even played on Thurmonds teams. HK played for the Knick's for a few years.

also, olympic skater scott hamilton is from the town of bowling green. he used to practice in the school's ice hockey arena mornings before school.

the above would only have tipped the scale the wrong way.

Tulsa's defense finally showed what it had. if only duncan had played the whole year.
