America's Joke

The Dallas Cowboys have won one playoff game in 15 years.

O-n-e.

That's almost impossible to do, and believe.

Jimmy's catch phrase, "How 'bout them Cowboys!" has been long ago been replaced by, "What's wrong with those Cowboys?"

Yet still the Cowboys loyalists act like they have been, and will be, really good.

Everybody knows what's wrong with the Cowboys. Everybody except one person. Owner Jerry Jones. He has proved one thing down through this horrific 15-year slump: Not just anybody can coach. Jerry thinks he can do everything from drafting players to naming starters to calling plays. He spends more time on the sideline than any owner in the history of sports outside of Al Davis, whose latter day teams were almost as bad as Dallas.

A secondary problem is Tony Turnover, Romo, the quarterback, who is probably better at golf than football. Romo does everything but win big games. Maybe his hands are too small. But he fumbles and throws more wobblers than just about any starter around.

Jerry has bought and brought a lot of good things to the game, namely a fabulous Hard Knocks edition, a super-great stadium, and a lot of happy foes.

But you can't buy luck.

And you can't buy yourself a coaching job.

OUT PICK THE PICKER CONTEST: It's about that time again. Contest starts Monday, Aug. 27.

You can buy a coaching job, but it doesnt mean you will be successful at it.
Time he pulled out a rocking chair, hired a reall GM and got out of the way.

Three things that keep Jerry going.

1. Being on camera.
2. Hearing his name anywhere on ESPN.
3. Last and probably least - winning.

One playoff win in 15 years is amazing.

Now if we could only get the local affilliates to quit broadcasting the Cowboys' pathetic, meaningless games and let us watch some good matchups.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
