An Offensive Show to Remember
Published: 9/6/2008 10:22 PM

If you love offense, you would have loved Oklahoma State's rout of Houston on Saturday night.
The Cowboys took a knee on the Houston 1 or the two teams would have combined for 100 points.
Still, OSU and UH combined for 93 points and 1,182 yards at Boone Pickens Stadium.
It was a pretty amazing show.
The Cowboys, who were among the best offensive shows in the nation last year, gave a hint they might be even better this year.
OSU ran and passed for 699 yards, the second best in school history.
If not for a sloppy first half (three turnovers), that total would have skyrocketed.
Still, that's the most yards since Barry Sanders was carrying the ball for the Cowboys all the way back in 1988.
The record of 717 yards (against Kansas) may be in jeopardy before the season is over.
Fixing some problems on defense remains the key to the season but knowing the offense can get it cranked up like that again this year gives high hopes to OSU.

We appreciate the Tulsa World for getting the pokes fans unrealistic hopes up again this year! Watching the reality check for pokes fans in November is always a beautiful thing to watch. Keep up the good work!

I was amazed by the performance of Bryant and Spud. Even if they try to shut down the inside run with Spud there's still Robinson and the option. If you slow down Bryant, you still have Brandon Pettigrew. Apparently Gundy told Beckman to back the defense off to only protecting against the big play once OSU scored its third touchdown in the third quarter. The defense still needs a lot of work and especially it seems at linebacker with how well Keenum scrambled in the first half and much of the passing was with linebackers in coverage. The cornerbacks look very improved over last year. I just hope that the linebackers can grow up before we play Mizzou on the road.

Once again, Mike reveals himself to be a closet OSU fan. Thanks for taking the time to comment on yet another OSU article.

If you love offense you might take a look at that team that plays in the town your newspaper calls home! The University of Tulsa has gone on the road twice, won twice and is averaging somewhere around 575 yards per game. Tell you what, you keep reporting on the Cowboys, TU will be making its news on the national stage before this season is over.

Mike: Is you comment aimed at UO and their ability to get to the Fiesta Bowl and just implode to great teams like Boise State and West Virginia? Yes, thanks to the Tulsa World and even the Oklahoman (Won't miracles ever cease), they are recognizing the vast improvement in the Pokes. Lets go Pokes and Hurricane.

I think Mike is just pointing out that this was 700 yards on HOUSTON. Remember, last season TU rolled up 550 yards (and also held them 324 yards) against Houston. Instead of celebrating 700 yards, I would be crying out for some DEFENSE. If OSU plays a team with any defensive skills, they may not be able to win in a shootout.

The Pokes will win 9 games this year at least. I'm calling it now.

Great team to watch on offense. First home game. 15,000 empty seats? Why didn't you students and alumni fill up the stadium? Come on, see exciting football.

That from me, a Sooner. I cheer for OSU except when playing OU. Can you Cowboys say the same?

15,000 empty seats? Why the expansion? The stadium the way it was held 50,000. IT would NOT have been filled up.

I was at the game and was surpised to hear that the attendance was only 45,001. I did not see 15,000 empty seats there. The new west endzone was full and there were only a few patches of empty seats in some of the upper sections in the rest of the stadium.

Anyway, like last year, it is a rollercoaster watching OSU. Big highs watching the offense, frustrating lows watching the defense.

Well, we get to play Missouri State, who I heard lost to a Division II team last week, so maybe we can stop them a time or two!
