And Now, Your Oklahoma City Wiggly Things
Published:

This site tried and tried to talk the OKC NBA people out of Thunder as a nickname. But the word is, shortly it will become official.
We suggested things a thousand times better: Chaw, Rounders, to name several.
The problems with the Thunder as a nickname are numerous.
First, many pee wee soccer teams have been named the Thunder for years.
Next, how are you going to illustrate a sound?
The only thing that comes to mind to illustrate a thunder sound is a wiggly thing, possibly vibrating out from a cloud, a wiggly thing representing a sound wave, a shock wave, a micro wave.
How's that for a t-shirt logo: Three wiggly things increasing in length, moving top left to bottom right across the piece of apparel.
There's always the music, Thunder Road, the moonshine epic.
And the battle cry could be "Thunderation," which was said by Aunt Bea or somebody on Hee Haw.

Mr. Picker, your dubiety at an NBA team adopting the name "Thunder" is totally accurate except for one thing . . . its in Oklahoma City. They elect people like Sally Kern and Jim Inhofe to represent them. There are certain things in life you can not logically explain.

Ha! How about Thunder Rolls...the Garth Brooks song ....lets keep it all in-state. Before the games they can shower the fans...then the mascot can shoot lightening bolts out of his eyes and thunder bolts out of his ars!

Guess we should stop focusing on our perceived advantages on the rest of the state and start focusing on the rising crimes and murders.
What is that 5 murders since Saturday?
Bushleague.
JDG

For the ignorant who don't realize the "chaw" is offensive to our state team.
CHAW- (from the dictionary, if you tools only new what that is)
Chaw has a wide range of senses in regional expressions. One Northern and Western meaning of the verb is "to bawl someone out": He chawed her good. A Southern sense is "to get the best of someone in a bantering contest" or simply "to embarrass": "That compliment sort of chawed me" (Publication of the American Dialect Society). The noun chaw can mean "a twist of chewing tobacco" or "an attachment or hold (on someone)"; for example, a flirtatious woman in Tennessee is "tryin' to git a chaw on a feller" (Dialect Notes).

They all sure got in a tizzy over your blog. I hate to think if they were trying to debate nuclear power.

JDG,
Are you related to Sally Kern? Let me know.
You seem very intelligent and mature. I love the use of curse words during your dignified response.
Please, continue to lower the intelligence of those who read these boards.
Regards,
Jim Inhofe

Are these blogs not moderated at all? They're quickly becoming a joke.

Time for the moderator to step in. JDG is out of control and OSUNDN isn't far behind.

Chris:
JDG could not possibly lower the intelligence or class of this blog.
You, Gene, Eric, and OSUNDN, being the dim witted World Picker minions and homers you are have maintained the low level of class, intelligence and genuine debate of this blog to the World Picker's level.
You all remind me of Forrest Gump with a bad attitude.
Judging from your most recent posts, all of you would need to add about 50 points to your respective IQs to reach the level of ignorance you believe others to possess.
Of course, as it is now, you are on an even plane with World Picker.
At least it explains your love affair with him.
None of you have ever made an intelligent, cogent, grown-up post. You don't even understand half of WP's lame drivel. He laughs at you because he uses you to spew his hate; and you don't even see it.
Your usual response to anyone who disagrees with your dopey idol is an eighth grade "na, na , na."
Good grief, grow up.
WP is a lost cause. There may be time for some of you to grow up.
If you really are men, and really think Chaw is a better name than Thunder, then get your t-shirts ordered, and wear them to a game in OKC sometime. And announce it so everyone knows you will be there.
NB: WP will not be there to back you up.
At least try to act like men.
Otherwise you will just keep sounding like an eighth grade sissy working at WP's Kool Ade stand.

"Otherwise you will just keep sounding like an eighth grade sissy working at WP's Kool Ade stand."
This quote sums up your life nicely, Nit Picker.
The fact that you are sticking up for JDG says alot about your IQ. It also showcases how stubborn you are.
You never back down, good for you. But the essay's you write on the Picker's blog shows just one thing; that you are creepy and obsessed with him (and me as well).
Now, hurry back to JDG's side. He needs a backrub.

Getting back to the point:
A sorry name for what will be a sorry team.
I can see the empty seats half way through the season now.

People take the internet too seriously. Just have fun. The Picker clearly doesn't take some of his arguments too seiously (I keed, I keed). Anyway, I'm gosh darn glad football season is close. Looks like TU might have a pass rush this year.
World Picker
TAB, you must explain why everybody is so wild about TU this season -- Pat Jones said on the record that TU is a top 20 team and that it will be this year's Boise.
True, Pat couldn't pick the winners of some replays, but TU has no quarterback and not defense to speak of. To think that it can waltz into Arkansas and not have to hustle to keep it close is rather mind-boggling.

The bean burger is insane.
Here's what I've been tanking out on recently, the monster-size Jamba Juice.
There's one on 61st and and Yale, another in Collinsville, can't imagine why there's not one in Brookside.
The two-for-one dinner at Billy Ray's is unbeatable, something like $15 or $17, chicken, catfish, ribs. I sat next to two guys who got two dinners for two, in other words, four dinners amont the two of them, ate every bite, with the hot sauce, it's heaven.
The greatest single cooking purchase I have ever made is the Hot Diggetydogger, an indoor hot dog cooker that doesn't simply heat, it grills, it's very intense and makes the best hot in food history, guaranteed.
Also, it is rumored the main prize in the picker contest this fall could be a Hasty Bake!

I have UAB circled as an upset possibility versus TU.
TAB
UAB? Really?
Have you read the stuff coming out of their camp? They are short 10 scholarships because of academics; their best o-lineman is ineligible, they have no running backs, a couple of other guys are hurt, and the coach is on record as saying they aren't practicing well.
I'm going to the game. I'm a little anxious about it myself. But I also remember being worried about La-Monroe and TU dominated them (and they were a much better team than UAB). If TU can't beat UAB, it will be a terrible season.
I like the catfish at Atlas Grill. Lately, they've had a pesto flavored sauce for it. Only thing it needs is a good English ale to go with it.
You were right about those ribs at Billy Ray's. Do you just go to the one on 15th or do you also venture to the west side one? Haven't been to the west side Billy Ray's in years.

I'm kind of over Jamba Juice.
I used to have to travel all over the country and it was a big deal to me before it came to Tulsa a few years back. I once had to stay up all night after a really long weekend of work and the only solace I could find, before boarding the plane, was a massive Jamba Juice -- made everything better.
I've been on a bit of a health kick, though, so it's kind of hard to justify (would rather my bad calories go to ribs, catfish, bean burgers, and beer).
Orange dream machine is my favorite, followed closely by the cold buster when I have a cold (it sort of helps).

McNellie's Wednesday's $3 burger night is still the best deal in town.
TAB
I like McNellie's, but their burgers are way overrated. It's not even a top 10 burger in Tulsa, though it's not bad. You go for the beer, not the food.
Nit Picker

Chris:
It's not about taking sides; its about class and genuine debate -- things neither you nor JDG, nor OSUNDN, among others, have exhibited.
Come back when you grow up.
Speaking of health food: is Ike's Chili still in business?
If you are old enough to remember Claud's on Peoria..you are really old. Great burgers.
That reminds me, time to have a new stent put in.
What size Hasty Bake?
The SEC = still the most overrated conference in the nation, by several light years.
" USC may have to forfeit some games and I may have to return a trophy, but since 2000 the PAC 10 still owns the SEC and I still have my millions."

I still like "The Dust", "The Red Clay", "The Toothless Wonders", "The Rednecks" or "The Republicans" (oops, a little redundant on the last two).
Zach

Good to see the foul language gone from the board.
I agree with the picker about TU. I am an alum and optimistic of a great year, but I can't look past a new QB and an iffy D.
Food wise:
BBQ: other than me, Stone Mill in BA
Pizza: Umberto's @ 21st & Harvard
Burgers: Hank's on Admiral
Pie: Brownie's (trust me)
Mexican: El Tequila@ 81st & Memorial (location is key here, the others are not as good)
Sandwiches: Al's @ 15th & Harvard
Best place no longer around:
The Original Ron's, when Ron still worked it, @ 15th & Harvard. I miss it!
