Oklahoma State junior James Anderson, who scored 27 points Saturday in an upset of No.1-ranked Kansas, rose to sixth place in a national player of the year poll conducted by Michael Rothstein of AnnArbor.com.
Rothstein polled 49 journalists who vote for various player of the year awards. Rothstein conducted four polls during the course of the season and asked participants to list three players on each ballot.
Anderson was not on any ballots during the first two polls, but he collected a third-place vote in the third poll and a second-place vote and two third-place votes in the fourth and final poll.
Ohio State's Evan Turner was the top vote-getter. Other players who finished ahead of Anderson were Kentucky's John Wall, Syracuse's Wesley Johnson, Villanova's Scottie Reynolds and Duke's Jon Scheyer. Anderson finished in a sixth-place tie with Kentucky's DeMarcus Cousins.
