Another Bad Day for Our Quarterbacks
Published: 8/27/2012 4:22 PM

A good to great NFL quarterback must have two things, it's that simple; or complicated.

A high quality quarterback has to have quick feet. Tom Brady couldn't outrun his wife. Peyton Manning couldn't outrun the Picker. But all the great ones have the ability to get out of the way of the rush, to keep from being sacked. They have pocket mobility.

Next, the best ones have a quick delivery. You can't stand back there and look around. Some 290-pound speedster will sit on you. The ball has to come out fast.

Sam Bradford and Brandon Weeden had lousy pro games last weekend.

Each looked a little slow on the draw, slow afoot, and late with the delivery.

Both were easily and repeatedly sacked.

The terrific new quarterbacks, Wilson at Seattle, Luck at Indy, Griffin at Wash, all looked good and quick.

Bradford has a good coach, a nice defense, decent catchers. He was paid a ton and a half of money. Weeden isn't young. But he is new.

Sure, it's early.

Both need to get much better.

Quickly.

Is the implication that Landry Jones will suffer a few losses this year and not be drafted during the first two rounds?

Come on Pick, you need to bring your A game this week with the start of college football and tell us how overrated Medium Game Bob's team is. The Pros can wait until next week.

Both QB's looked like they had lead feet.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
