Another way to the big dance

In most seasons, it is presumed that the only way the Oral Roberts University men's basketball team can reach the NCAA Tournament is by winning the conference tournament at season's end.
Not so fast.
The rules may have changed, courtesy of ORU's shocking upset of Kansas.
ORU coach Scott Sutton did a smart thing by cobbling together a loaded schedule for his veteran team. If the Golden Eagles can knock off a few giants, perhaps they can raise their RPI to such a level that it will not matter at season's end whether they win the Mid-Con Tournament title. Maybe ORU can gain at at-large bid to the tournament.
Back when Steve Robinson was coaching Tulsa, the Golden Hurricane went out to the west coast and won an early-season game at UCLA. From that point onward, the feeling was that TU was going to be an NCAA Tournament team, regardless of whether the invitation said automatic qualifier or at-large qualifier.
ORU deserves to get the same vibe, but the Golden Eagles shouldn't leave anything to chance.
