Anthony Kim: Tiger made golf "cool"

If the Final Four just ended, that means the Masters is next on the sports calendar.
Former University of Oklahoma golfer Anthony Kim will be playing in his first Masters this week and he had something interesting to say during a press conference Monday at Augusta National.
Kim, by the way, is a young gun on the PGA Tour, who has made no bones about the fact that he wants to be the best player in the world. Brashness? Confidence? Goofiness, considering that Tiger Woods still lives on this planet?
Kim doesn't back down from big expectations because, in his estimation, to beat Tiger you have to think like Tiger.
Kim said he was maybe 9 or 10 years old when he started watching Woods.
"I'll watch Phil and I'll watch Vijay," Kim said. "But Tiger was the guy that made golf cool. When he got out here (on tour), all I cared about was his attitude and what he said, and how he got that good."
Kim said Tiger goes to every golf tournament with one thing -- winning -- in mind.
"And he obviously showed that at the Match Play," Kim said. "Even though he lost, he felt like he was ready to play, even after that long layoff.
"I think learning from guys like that, the younger generation feels that they have to do the same things and have the same mental attitude as Tiger to be the best."
So, Kim is headed to his first Masters with no goal other than winning. Stay tuned.

I remember an interview Tiger did with Curtis Strange not long after he turned pro. When asked what his expectations were on the Tour, Tiger said he wanted to win every tournament he entered. Strange took this as brashness, said he should learn to like Top 10's. He even said, "You'll learn.". Fast forward almost 13 years and see where we are. Not only is Tiger far and away the best player on Tour, but nobody comes close to him in his work ethic, physical conditioning, and mental strength. Now, the younger players have seen that fire and determination, and they look up to it. The good ones, with Kim at the top of that list, realize how hard they must work if they want to reach Tiger's level. Tiger knows this, so he continues to push himself harder to improve. "You'll learn". I guess he never did.

Tiger is good but one can't say he out works everyone. That's just an opinion. Golf was cool without him although the media seems to think there's no golf wo/Tiger.
