Are Sumlin and Briles cutting into Stoops' business?

Travis Haney put together an interesting list the other day on ESPN.com – the nation's top 10 recruiting head coaches. Bob Stoops didn't make the cut. (Neither did Mack Brown.)

Coming in at 3 and 4, just behind Nick Saban and Urban Meyer, were Art Briles and Kevin Sumlin. Huh.

That got me curious. Is this new world order affecting Stoops' business?

I plunged into Rivals' recruiting database. Of Baylor's 21 current commitments, two received scholarship offers from OU – linebackers Brian Nance and Raaquan Davis.

Of the Sooners' 21 commitments, six received Baylor offers.

By that measure of analysis, it seems if Stoops and Briles are going after the same kid, he's still more likely to choose Norman over Waco.

But what about College Station?

Sumlin has 32 commitments according to Rivals. Here's the list of players who also received offers from OU:

LB Reggie Chevis (Houston)
TE Cameron Clear
WR JaQuay Williams
DT Isaiah Golden
ATH Laquvionte Gonzalez
WR Derrick Griffin
OL J.J. Gustafson
WR Sebastian Larue
DT Justin Manning
LB Jordan Mastrogiovanni
WR Kyrion Parker
WR Ricky Seals-Jones
DT Hardreck Walker

Back to OU's commitments, here are the players who had offers from A&M:

RB Keith Ford
DT Kerrick Huggins
OL Josiah St. John
DE D.J. Ward

So is Sumlin affecting Stoops' business? Yes, it appears he is. And not in a good way.

Interesting, we certainly don't have anyone recruiting Texas with great success aside from Norvell & Gundy.

A&M cut bait with Huggins because there is a chance he won't qualify.
A&M got the commitment from DT Justin Manning & Huggins was a player not worth the risk of wasting a scholarship. Hope he makes it to Norman.

To assume that those recruits would have come to OU if they had not picked A&M is absurd. Some maybe, all of them? No way.
