Are the Stoops Brothers Losing It?
Published: 10/28/2012 9:20 AM

This doesn't look like the Bob Stoops of a dozen years back.

That Bob Stoops was smiling, happy, humorous.

This Bob Stoops is defensive -- no phone calls on his radio show -- and always cranky, picking arguments with any media member who doesn't buy the powerful public relations campaign that fools a nation year in and year out.

That Mike Stoops had a defense that could make a play when the game was on the line.

This one is about to blow his top on the sideline and gives up big plays that lose games.

What's wrong with OU?

Lots.

It is in a joke offense.

You can't run a spread offense with an immobile quarterback. The spread offense is designed for quarterbacks who can run until they head for the infirmary. Look at the rushing stats: Notre Dame 215, OU 15 or 20.

Sometimes it's hard not to buy into the OU hype.

But here is the truth. Football teams don't get that much better. If you have trouble with UTEP, expect much more of the same on down the way. You are what you are. You just play bums like Tech and Texas. Quarterbacks who can't run don't suddenly find swiftness. Defenses that can't move don't wake up in the right places. You are what you are and always will be until fundamental mistakes are admitted.

Road trip to Iowa State anyone?

Oklahoma is officially a pro basketball state before Halloween.

Have to agree. College games are won in the trenches. With a dual threat QB. With a solid running game. ND and K State both run vanilla defenses that are fundamentally sound, and they crushed OU's offense. Just like Florida, LSU and others have done though the years. It ain't workin'.

Gasp. ND is pretty good. KSU is about equal to OU, so guess its not looking great for the Big 12 this year.

The services for Sooner Magic will be held Tuesday at 2 pm in Norman, OK. Arrangements under the direction of M.Stoops-Heupel. In lieu of flowers please thump your chest or send your donation to Wish-a-Sooner-Could-Graduate. Sooner Magic is dead.

Switzer was right.

Agree completely -- OU just doesn't have the horses. Stoops' poor recruiting is becoming more and more obvious. Some of the best players the last couple of years seem to be walk-ons and surprise transfers like Whaley, Brown and Saunders.

Well, Pick, have your brother John Hoover put on his big boy pants and head to Monday's press conference and ask the coach formerly known as Big Game Bob all of these Tough questions.

OU should change its slogan to "Coach Like A Champion Today".

Pick declared it a "Big" game prior to kickoff. Perhaps Bob can reinforce the "Medium Game Bob" title. I once suggested calling him "Home Game Bob", but that doesn't seem as appropriate now.

If oSu upsets the 'Cats and Bedlam presents the opportunity for a three-way championship with K-State ending up with the higher BCS rating (and therefore representing the 3 champions in the Fiesta), will OU recognize the championship like it does its 1976 crown or will Bob and Okie fans be consistent and disavow it?

Interesting observation on the meggage boards: If K-State pulled Bill Snyder out of retirement to resurrect its program, maybe OU should bring back the King, Barry Switzer.

Medium Game Bob forever.

Interesting how Arizona's team and defense seems to be improved and OU's defense seems to be the same. Welcome home Mike. The hype was fun while it lasted. The fans would have put for sale signs in Venables front yard when he was this bad. It pays to have the same last name as the head coach i guess.

Something is wrong. Big mistakes by seniors, turnovers, penalties, lack of discipline and no running game. Plus you can't use your 4 year starting quarterback in goal line situations, ever?

Complacency? Watching Fox Business Channel too much? Too nice and buddy buddy with his players and assistant coaches? A lot of questions need to be answered in Norman something is wrong.

Average yards per carry: OU = .6 and ND = 5.5. Football games are won and lost in the trenches. This game was no exception. OU has a bunch of pansies on the O-Line and D-Line. When OU gets hit in the mouth, the team buckles.

After the season, I predict Joe C. will engineer raises for the Brothers Stoop, et al.. Can't have them feeling unloved or under-appreciated.

The Stoops brothers need more money.

Stoops: "It isn't solely about a national championship. It never has been. It never will be."
That statement openly concedes complacency. He's fine doing the same things that he's done for 12 years. He isn't interested in making the tough changes required to move the program to the very top - which obviously isn't his agenda. Stoops might produce some good teams but he'll never have great teams with that mindset.
