Washington Nationals television announcer Bob Carpenter will be the featured speaker at this month’s Tulsa Sports Charities luncheon at noon Wednesday (Feb. 20) at ONEOK Field.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling 918-744-5998 before 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18. The buffet lunch is $11. Carpenter will preview the 2013 season...

Edwar Cabrera, who went a combined 11-5 for the Tulsa Drillers and Triple-A Colorado Springs last season, was placed on the Colorado Rockies’ 60-day disabled list due to a shoulder injury...

From spring training: Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki told the Denver Post that he is impressed by lefty prospect Tyler Anderson, who is expected to pitch for the Drillers this season. Anderson was 12-3 with as 2.47 ERA at low Single-A Asheville in 2012.

“He’s a great kid, one of the best I’ve worked with,” Tulowitzki said. “I don’t know about his pitching because I haven’t seen him. But his attitude and work ethic were great. He really impressed me.”

He remembers well the excitement of attending his first high school football game, Edison at Booker T. Washington, before a capacity crowd at S.E. Williams Stadium in 1973. He also has reported on Tulsa Drillers baseball at both newspapers for almost 20 years.
