Several more former Tulsa Drillers were selected to play in the World Baseball Classic in March.

On Thursday, Toronto pitcher R.A. Dickey and Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeria were picked for Team USA.

Seven former Drillers -- all pitchers -- are on foreign teams: Adam Bright (Australia), Dustin Molleken (Canada), Ching-Lung Lo (Chinese Taipei), Esmil Rogers and Pedro Strop (Dominican Republic) and Xavier Cedeno (Dominican Republic).

A few other former Drillers with the Colorado Rockies reportedly refused invitations to play -- shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (USA), catcher Wilin Rosario (Dominican Republic) and third baseman Nolan Arenado (Puerto Rico).

Former Oklahoma State pitcher Scott Richmond is on Canada's roster...

Former Drillers infielder Jayson Nix and pitcher Jim Miller signed minor league contracts with the Yankees after being dropped from the major league roster.

A University of Tulsa graduate, he covered high school sports for the Tulsa Tribune from 1983 to 1992 and has been in charge of the World's high school coverage since 2004. He remembers well the excitement of attending his first high school football game, Edison at Booker T. Washington, before a capacity crowd at S.E. Williams Stadium in 1973. He also has reported on Tulsa Drillers baseball at both newspapers for almost 20 years.
