Ask your Self one question

Delightful Question of the Week:

Has there ever been a more overrated basketball coach than Bill Self?

Nice, personable guy.

BUT:

While at ORU: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

While at TU, foe breaks a leg, lets a tourney win happen.

While at Illinois, does nothing monumental with what was considered to be Final Four talent.

While at Kansas, has flopped out to Bantam B's.

How can a coach be considered terrific without having been to the Final Four???!!!

KU should be ranked number one.....we'll see, won't we.

mr. picker, i think you are off base here. i think self is an excellent basketball coach. at oru he took a program that was awful, and restored it to respectability. he schooled a real overrated coach, steve robinson, while on the sideline at oru. at tulsa, he took the program farther than it had ever been. his record in the ncaa tournament at tu was 4-2. the leg break comment is unfair, simply because, there is no way tulsa would have played the bearcats in round two. and at illionois, i believe he became the first coach ever to go to two straight elite 8's with separate teams. he also recruited luther head, dee brown, augustine, powell and, of course, jack ingram. he was directly responsible for the illionois's run the nc title game. and i think i would look out for kansas this season. they appear to be the lock of the century to win the big 12. with rush, wright, and chalmers the jayhawks may be the most talented team in the country.

i'm with the picker on this one. now, he doesn't say that self is a bad coach...just overrated.

i think he is a good coach. you must agree, however, that he has clearly underachieved thus far at ku. the talent the jayhawks put on the court is good enough that early tourney exits should not happen with regularity.

when mcdonald's sponsors your entire squad, you should win games.

getting to the final 8 when you're supposed to be in the final 2, that's just not right.

check all excuses at the door this time around.
wow! picker wow! 1st.self is one of the only coaches to take three different teams to the elite eight. 2nd. he, like blair said, was the first coach ever to go to two staight elite eights with separate teams. 3rd he is a four-time finalist for the naismith coach of the year award (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003), and was named national coach of the year by the sporting news in 2000. 4th. self is 72-24 (.750) in his third season at ku and 279-129 (.683) in his 13th season overall and 13-8 in ncaa tourney play. 5th. he is one of the best recuriters in college basketball! 6th and he has made the ncaa tournament 6 years in a row.

i would say norm stewart was more overrated than bill self. never seen a program say they have such a grand basketball tradition with no final fours than mizzzzzzzzzou. btw, coach o'rourke say hello.

elite eight?

so-called best coach in the world, that's good?

look what he did at ku the last two years.

he'll be top ranked this year, number one seed, easy draw, how could he not get to the final four?

we'll see.
