BCS (Bowl Cheating Series) Style Points: 1.9
Published: 12/1/2008 4:09 PM
Last Modified: 12/1/2008 4:09 PM

The Bowl Cheating Series (BCS) has everybody talking to him and her self.

We're no exception.

Q: Take away the volleyball touchdown and the late touchdown, and OU wins by six, correct?

A: Take away the two-point return and it would have been less than that.

Q: What exactly is a "body of work?"

A: It's what a homer says when his or her favorite team crushes a bum at home.

Here's the dumbest thing about the whole "body of work" fiasco. Homers trying to get OU in over Texas wonder why Texas Tech was virtually eliminated from the three-way tie.

Well, here's why: NEBRASKA DOMINATED TECH IN OVERTIME IN LUBBOCK! There's a bruise on your stupid "body of work." WHY ARE WE THE ONLY ONE TO MENTION THAT AN AVERAGE NEBRASKA TEAM STOOD UP TO TECH IN LUBBOCK? Because the homers can't handle the facts, that's why. Simply, Tech should have been first out because of that rotten "body of work" performance, leaving OU and Texas to arm wrestle for the top spot.

Q: What are "style points?"

A: Style points can be defined as acts of bad sportsmanship, of trying to destroy outmanned opponents at the risk of everybody's health, and the winner's self respect.

Q: You were sure right about a Venables defense being unable to stop a mobile quarterback. Again.

A: OU fans should cheer for Alabama all right, as Tebow and Florida could ring up 105 on that Sooner D. OU can stop Bama.

Q: Who has come out looking the best in all this lunacy?

A: Lunacy is right. It could be solved this simply and pleasantly. Eight-team playoff, four games Dec. 15, nobody is in school. Two more playoff games in two of the biggest bowls, same time as always, rotate the bowl sites each year. Final game two weeks after the big bowls. All the bowls stay the same, more cash is made, we get a national champ, everybody is happy.

Those looking the best in this mess are OU quarterback Bradford, and OU coach Stoops. Bradford is Peyton and Eli Manning rolled into one, one of the best ever. Accurate, fast release, quick enough to get out of the way. And Stoops, realizing what a bad election system this is with all the homers and hacks, gave up his vote!

On something of a somber note, OSU has one of the worst pass defenses in the history of the collegiate gridiron.

On something of a strange note, OSU coach Gundy called a time out before OU's last score, when the Sooners were trying to fall on the football.

You're right, Tech is a chump. A chump that beat...oh, never mind. Why spoil the fun with facts.
jj (4 years ago)
It doesnt count that tech beat TX after it was on the last play of a game. It also doesnt count that tech was ahead for approxiamtely 58 minutes of a 60 minute game before that last play. I mean c'mon that is like saying Iowa's win over Penn State didnt happen.
JJ (4 years ago)
KUDOS to Stoops for not sounding like the beggar Mack Brown. I live in Texas & it sucks to hear it all day long. All he needs is a banjo with that hillbilly twang of his so he can sing about his woes.
JT FROM JENKS (4 years ago)
You tricked me Picker. I was ready for a phone call from Mack Brown crying again.
TAB (4 years ago)
Only the Picker would argue that a team that lost a game also dominated it; Tech was the only one to score in OT. Really, I expect more from you, Picker.
PickMe (4 years ago)
Picker, you never cease to amaze.
Why does Tech get thrown out over a close win in Lubbock? How about the OSU/TX game, which OSU very likely could have won if it had a better coach. And playing What If with the OSU game? What about the botched call on the OU fumble recovery, the one that never got reviewed? Wow, that takes away an opportunity for the OSU touchdown and likely would have allowed the Sooners to cash in on a short field. Funny you didn't mention that.
If you are the only one screaming about something, either you are a genius or an idiot. I wonder which you qualify for.
Yawn, its time for some new material Picker.
What about? (4 years ago)
How can Texas claim they deserve it more, when it took OU beating OSU AND TECH to even give them an opportunity to whine about it? If OU loses either of those games, TX would STILL be sitting at home this Saturday. How come nobody talks about THAT Mr. Picker?
Tom (4 years ago)
Gee Picker, just a little over a year ago you were saying Bradford just plain didn't have what it takes to be the big man in a big game. I disagreed with you then. He will only be better next year, at OU or in the NFL.
PW (4 years ago)
Picker, you can't just throw out the TX Tech loss for Texas. Texas has nothing to complain about. They had the same chance to win all their games like everyone else. Win them all and no one can say anything. If you lose, you give up control of your destiny. If Nebraska dominated TX Tech, then why didn't TX beat them? So only certain losses count now?

Pickster...credit where it's due...you are dead right about OU's inability to cope with a two-dimensional quarterback. But you were dead wrong about the OU - OSU game whereas I, on the other hand, pegged it. I called it OU by 17, they win by 20. Credit where it's due, indeed. See you in Acapulco.

Hey Picker, its good to be in the states again.

Thanks for all the entertainment. It doesn't take a lot to get this one going :-)

First, What about?- very good point
Second, I do get sick of all the "head to head" talk, since when did that EVER matter? LSU won the title last year with TWO loses and nobody said why isn't Ark or Ken ahead in the polls.
As you have said yourself Picker, early games just don't mean as much, bottom line. It may not be fair but it is the "de facto" fact.
Chris (4 years ago)
Yes, OU got sooo lucky. But funny you don't mention the fumble that wasn't by Kendall Hunter that probably would have turned the game into a route.
Eric (4 years ago)
Awwww picker....I bet you would have given anything for ESPN to call you so you could join them in throwing a pity party for Texas. Who cares...three way tie...someone had to go...two people left at home....just glad i didnt write blog and article after blog and article saying how its the biggest travisty ever if OU goes over Texas. Cry me a river. Dont lose and you have no gripes. If OU hadnt caught a tipped pass....if Texas defender had intercepted a pass...boohoo!! what about IF ou linebacker hadnt got hurt....or IF OU had got replay showing that they had recovered hunters fumble against the pokes.....your a freaking joke. Go write down in austin. That being said....BOOMER SOONER!!!!!!

Licker, It's time's like this that I remember why I call you that. Where do I begin to comment on your stupidity?
Let's start with our bet. Don't forget to leave my payment at Bros. Houligan, chump. Don't deny what I told you I would shove back in your face several months ago. You've already shoved it in my face that you expect ME to pay that OU in the championship game-bet, and now you're jumping up and down about predicting it?!! I have to stop there for a moment, because your hypocrisy and ignorance has overwhelmed me.....

What does my wife and the Texas Longhorns have in common?

They are both stay-at-home mothers.
Greg (4 years ago)
OU scored on what, eight straight drives? They would have scored on the drive anyway, the volley ball pass just led to a quicker score.

OSU scored on the fumble that wasn't.

OSU scored on the sack avoiding throw away pass interference call. If the field was 10 yards wider it would have been a good call though.

Who goes to what bowl if Missouri beats OU? If Florida beats #1 Alabama would #2 OU play #3 Texas again?
Mike (4 years ago)
It's sad to see the Texas teams left out - Missouri is weak and doesn't belong in a championship game, having already lost to Texas, Okie State, and Kansas. Unfortunately, we need the computers to help the idiot voters figure things out and to keep them honest, that was never more apparent than when the human polls were released Sunday and we saw the WILD and UNJUSTIFIABLE swing in Texas favor. Voters are crooked and self-serving, at least the computers realize that there were 11 other games played by these 3 teams this year. The voters seem to recall only one, and if that's what it's coming to, what's the point of playing more than 1 game a year? This voter bias is why we had to come up with the BCS in the first place. Texas had their butts handed to them by both Oklahoma and Tech (and were taken to the wire by OSU, in Austin) - they just happened to get VERY lucky against Oklahoma when Reynolds was lost for the season. Out of 120 minutes of football, Texas led for a total of 17 minutes in those 2 games - that means they were getting beat down for 103 of those 120 minutes - but I'm sure the voters are right, Texas is really better, after all - they beat OU for 15 minutes and Tech for a minute and a half.

True mobile quarterbacks give everyone fits.Hats off to Robinson for an outstanding performance.
I agree with you that if OU did not make the plays to win, they would not have won.
The D made a couple of stops when they needed to.Funny how that works game after game.
By the way, the empty seats really did look empty after all.
Daniel will cry.
Alabama is very young. Not as gifted as Florida. Neither was Old Miss. They both are hard nosed physical teams. The Gators could struggle a bit.

Man....somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning! The facts are Mr.Picker that there was a three way tie at the end of the year- it doesn't matter who played who and where. I think the tie-breaking system that the Big 12 has in place stinks. If, however, one were to look at the whole situation subjectively (as it does not appear that you are) one could make arguments for and against any of the three teams. It's pretty low of you also to blame the scheduling as a reason for Texas to be the tie-break winner. They are very fortunate that they got to play OSU and Missouri at home. And I think the non-conference schedule should be brought up by you as well. I mean- does OU's considerably more difficult non-conference schedule mean anything to you?

Help! Quick, someone call the CIA, or the FBI, we need Fox Mulder and Dana Scully on this one - apparently, November 1, 2008 (a Saturday) has been erased from history, and replaced by a sticky note that reads: "Please refer to October 11, 2008"!!! This dastardly devious crime is affecting sports writers, talking heads, and other would-be experts across the country! (luckily it has little or no effect on CFB coaches and is nontransferable to computers)

Mack Brown (4 years ago)
Dear Picker:
I know you have lost a lot of money betting on football games and that you are a big bigot.
But even I cannot erase my team's loss to Texas Tech --the same Texas Tech OU beat by 40+ points. Quit trying, it makes you look stupid.
Also, don't go down that path of trying to bash the body of work idea while at the same time pointing out how the OU/OSU game could have been only a six point loss by the Cowboys.
It makes you look like a homer, and a stupid one at that.
Nit Picker (4 years ago)
World Picker:
Congratulations! You have written the funniest article ever.

I have one question for you: Have you thought seriously about contacting the NCAA about your eight team playoff idea? It is brilliant. What's more, no one has ever mentioned it before! You are so original.
Mike (4 years ago)
Hey, what the heck happened to all the Oklahoma State fans who were so active with their comments prior to Bedlam?
Jeremy (4 years ago)
Listen people...it's a 3-way tie, so any head-to-head arguments are out the window. They are all 7-1, and thus are all co-champs of the south. Now, can you argue that UT belongs in KC? Sure. But don't tell me OU isn't just as deserving...or Tech for that matter.
