BCS Haters Rejoice!
Published: 9/7/2010 2:30 PM

After Boise State's victory over pitifully coached Virginia Tech (went for two for no reason in the third quarter, failed; then late on third down passed incomplete instead of running clock), it is close to apparent that five really good teams are going to fall victim to the Bowl Con Scam (BCS).

Here is this season's possible Magnificent Seven:

Boise State (should go undefeated).
SEC winner (unless it loses twice).
Big 12 winner (undefeated or one loss).
Big Ten winner (undefeated or one loss).
Pac Ten winner (Oregon, undefeated or one loss).
Notre Dame (if undefeated).
TCU (if undefeated).

Big East stinks, ACC not much better.

The SEC winner with one loss should be an automatic Bowl Con Scam (BCS) finalist.

Matter of fact, any one-loss team from the SEC, Big Ten, or Hang Ten conferences should outrank Boise State or TCU.

What's more difficult, a one-game schedule, or an eight or nine-game schedule?

With Boise State's win, this season's Bowl Con Scam (BCS) could be the nightmarish mess all fair-minded people have been hoping for.

The ESPN coverage of the Boise State, V-Tech game was suprisingly horrid, as the usually reliable Brent Mustyberger and Kirk Homerstreit were pro-Boise to an absurd degree.

It would be pretty funny if Boise State robbed Homerstreit's beloved Ohio State of a Scam Series final berth! So watch Homerstreit change his song and dance, fast.

While on the subject of horrid, has any fan ever seen anything blotched more than two-point conversion attempts in college.

Here's the new rule, knuckleheads: If you need two points to win the game with one second left, try it. Otherwise, KICK IT!

In week one of the picking contest, somebody from afar won with a 14-1-1 record against the point spread, missing only the OU game; which is impossible.

I thought the rankings were updated at noon on Tuesday?
TulsaTulsa (2 years ago)
so is the picker saying only 1 person won? Or have the rankings not been updated yet? I'm confused...

8:20 Wednesday and still no information about rankings. Either tell us to forget it or tell us when they are ready.

"The ESPN coverage of the Boise State, V-Tech game was suprisingly horrid, as the usually reliable Brent Mustyberger and Kirk Homerstreit were pro-Boise to an absurd degree."

This is a joke, right? The "usually reliable?!" Brent and Kirk are the WORST commentators on the face of the planet. That is unless you like to hear about Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley being best friends since they came out of the womb ad nauseam.

Listening to Brent makes me wonder if he even knows where he is at. He certainly doesn't know which teams are playing. Did anybody else hear him refer to Virgina Tech as Texas Tech during the game?

MexiMike, you are obviously a fan of Bob Barry's and his its TD its a fumble, its a dead ball, they're kicking off/punting.

I like Herbstreit and Musberger and its about time someone gave Boise St. some props for being a good football team. It doesn't matter what conference they play in, simply put, they're good and well coached and that leads to a lot of wins. I would bet they would win both the Big East and ACC this year and have a better than average chance of winning the PAC-10. I believe Boise St. has only playing FBS football for 15 years after dominating the FCS (I-AA) level for many years. Boise St. has simply taken on all challengers and doesn't shy away from tough road games simply because no one will play them in Boise. I don't see Ohio St. or Alabama or any other team trying to schedule a tough game against them. Honestly, Boise St. is more athletic than Ohio St. with the exception of Prior, but they bottled up Tyrod Taylor enough, so I think they could keep Prior under wraps enough to make that a great game.

Musberger doesn't even watch the game anymore. He just uses cliches that are often inappropriate for what is happening.....So, will the results from Week One be posted anytime soon...??????

Bla(h)?
Obviously, by your ripping Bob Barry, your man love for Musberger and Herbstreit, and your affinity for college football's Blue Man Group, you must be a Poke fan. That's the only kind of person who would write such a response. Bob Barry is getting older and is confused sometimes, but you don't hold THAT job at THAT University being a hack. We should all be so lucky to have a guy who's voice raises 7 octaves and fires his pistol when talking to the fat tick-like sideline reporter about who got to spend more time in the "locker room" getting "inside information" from the players.
Secondly, as a fan of a second tier program, you would think that Brent and Kirk were great. That's because you never hear them call your games. In fact, are you people ever even on TV?
And lastly, Boise doesn't "shy away" from tough road games? That's true, there not shy about it, they just won't do it. Do you have personal knowledge of these "teams" that have refused to play Boise? Does ANYONE have documented proof that the big boys won't play Boise? I would almost buy that, but when the 2 teams you listed in your rant are playing highly ranked NON-CONFERENCE opponents this weekend, that argument just doesn't hold water. Also, open your eyes and look around. Ohio State played a home and home with Texas, are the Buckeyes more scared to play on the blue field than in Austin? OU has future matchups with Florida State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Tennessee. Is Boise more fearsome that those places? Anyone who answers yes to this question is a moron. The REAL reason people won't play the Smurfs is because, why would a power team from a power BCS conference take a chance on losing a game to a team that is not from a conference with an automatic BCS bid? If a non BCS conference team wins that game and walks through the cupcakes left on their schedule, they take a big money BCS payout away from their conference... Its about money and title shots not about who's got a bigger "backbone"!

Mustyberger seems precisely aware of point spreads. Maybe that has something to do with the rising and sinking of his announcing tones.

It is interesting to note that after the biggest win in the history of Boise State, the voters (probably near the major conferences) raised the Blue Fielders exactly ZERO SPOTS IN THE POLL!

So we're already down to style points, down to crushing hapless saps in the fourth quarter.

Nice system.

Wednesday, 2:05 PM and still no information on who beat the picker and who did not. Think I will go to FoxNews. At least I know when they are lying.
Everyone, sorry for any confusion.

We publish the results every Tuesday by noon (we have to wait for the result of the Monday night game).

On the lefthand side of the Picker site, you see a list of all the people who played the contest. When you are logged in to the site, click on the rankings button at the top of the page. You will see that there is a link that says "To see weekly results CLICK HERE." When you do that, you will see your results and can track how you do each week.

MexiMike, I like Brent Musburger's announcing voice. However, I think the guy is past his prime, and I'm not sure about his knowledge of the game. When you start getting stats and teams wrong, it's time to retire. Also, he tends to pick a few players/teams and root for them, which should never occur when announcing a college football game.

Thanks Jason!

I watched OU play Utah tech or whatever..... up close and personal. Landry Jones can't hit an 8 yard down and out. I watched him try right in front of my eyes 3 times to a very skilled receiver (Stills must be good to play as a true freshman). He threw it in front of him, behind him and over him. Jones doesn't have it. I know Blake Bell is brand new, but unless we want to lose 5 more games this year they had better be getting him plenty of reps and since he is the future.... forget the redshirt.
MexiMike (2 years ago)
BLA, I have respect for Bob Barry but definitely think it is time for him to hang it up. With that said, Musburger would be just as bad if he had to do play by play on the radio.

Bmrsnr77, nice novel. I'm actually an OSU fan so maybe you should think twice before pigeon holing everyone? Also, a couple of notes for you. THAT second tier team finished 2nd in the south last year and THAT second tier team was on television (FSN) just last week.

Glenn616, I like his voice too. And I also agree that the lovefest that he and Spray Tan Herbie had with Boise State was pretty unprofessional. If I was a Va Tech fan watching, I wouldn't have been happy.

Mexi, am i the only one out here who finds it funny that the best defense against being a second tier program, is that you came in 2nd last year?
I could give you a litany of reasons that okie state is a 2nd tier program, but i don't have time, and everyone knows them anyway. Just because some 80 yr old man bordering on senility pumped the program full of money does not a top tier program make. Facilities? Yes. Product? Not by a long shot.
MexiMike (2 years ago)
Wow. Very typical. Ignoring the actual parts of the discussion you were so ridiculously wrong about and attacking Boone Pickens. Very clever.

You are picking a "push" on the Notre Dame game this week? Bet you 10K Notre Dame does not win the game by exactly four points..... or was that a mistake?

This only shows that the person who wrote this article is a die hard OU Fan because I remember a certain Fiesta Bowl not that long ago that Boise State was the major underdog because of their conference and they beat OU in overtime. Just because VT got beat by James Madison does not mean Boise is suddenly a bad football team. They proved themselves once a few years back. Do they need to beat OU again because honestly after OU barely beating Air Force who is a good team btw, I don't think it would be that difficult to beat OU again.
