Look at American Idol, people eating bugs on islands, nerds having weekly TV shows, look at the popularity of bloopers.
Sometimes what's awful is popular.
Here is the worst of the weekend:
The option is officially dead (outside of high school): The bodily harm Kansas put on the Aggies would have been illegal off a football field. The rinky-dink Aggie offense is an embarrassment to the conference.
Dylan Thomas: The heaviest favorite in the Breeder's Cup ran like Bob Dylan.
Phil Simms: The worst announcer in pro football. He works like he was getting paid by the word. His shrill mindless whining never ceases. Once, I thought I could hear him jabbering nonsensically through the Mute.
Penn State's offense: Exciting as its uniforms.
Florida's defense: Couldn't stop tricycle traffic.
Inmates call shots for the Vikings: Peterson got more carries; and still the quarterbacks stink. Looks like Sanders at Detroit.
The NFL in England: Ale sales were up.
The MVP in the World Series: Should have been the reliever.
Missouri's defense: Bent and broke at home versus Cyclones. Maybe OU's ten-point win at Iowa State wasn't so horrible after all.
Texas Tech's offense: Good only against bums.
Fred Claus: Somebody ask Vince Vaughn to stop it.
Redskins cry because New England rubbed it in: Not as much as Washington fans cried.
OU's BCS chances take hit: From Oregon. Also, BC could very easily win out. Forget LSU, Alabama takes out Wacky Wes this weekend.
Texas is over-joyed at edging mighty Nebraska in Austin: OSU takes the under-achieving Longhorns down Saturday.
Always remember, when it comes to handicapping, sports history is for losers.

World Picker:
I have you 7-10 for this weeks games going in to tonight's NFL game.
That's a pathetic 41%; If you win tonight's game you will still be only 44%.
You must be losing your shirt. Hope you aren't putting real $ where your mouth is.
PS. How 'bout them Hurricanes. Whipped those Mustangs didn't they.

I can always count on Mr. Picker for a laugh or at least a smile on a bad day. This time you nailed the trajectory of Vince Vaugn's career. I've been down to the Starworld the last couple of weekends and each time I've been subjected to previews of "Fred Claus." Somebody needs to smack Mr. Vaughn and/or the people responsible for that movie. By the way, I read this article in Time or Newsweek (and I swear I'm not making this up) that all the elves in the movie are midgets recruited from Russia. It turns out that they were all holed up in some hotel in London during the shooting. This happened to coincide (this must have been last year) with the hotel's promotion of this Halloween event for the residents' kids. So you had all these little kids dressed up as skeletons and Draculas and devils and such knocking on the doors of these midgets. The article says that the midgets, not knowing the custom of Halloween, were totally FREAKED by the little ghosts and goblins. There's some kind of lesson here but I'm not sure what...

I agree with everything save one: If established and ran properly, the option is NOT dead. You need not look further than Oklahoma State to see a very effective option run. Ask K-State if they thought it was dead two Saturdays ago.
OSU Jeff
Mike,
I agree with you about OSU's option attack, but the key is that we don't rely on it as our PRIMARY means of moving the ball. It works well when you can run it effectively and bring it in as a "change up."
Robinson can throw to Bowman, Pettigrew and Dez Bryant. We can also line up and run Savage and Hunter out of multiple formations.
THEN throw the option at them.
To contrast, A&M's LEADING RUSHER is Stephen McGee. Unless your QB is named Tommie Fraizer, that's probably not going to work...
WORLDPICKER

The option game is so dead, flies have moved on to circle other offenses.
Kansas made the option Aggies cry.
Look at Florida. Its quarterback runs a lot and is about ready for intensive care.
The only time anybody runs the option is if you can't do anything else.
Think the pros like option linemen?
Khanurik: Vince Vaughn could single-handedly ruin Christmas. The wedding crasher is Santa's brother? Illegitimate son? Help.
Nit Picker: I have been asked by a multitude of readers to inform you how sad it is when one of the best things in your life is when somebody else misses a football pick.

World Picker:
1. If you have a 'multitude of readers' so do I.
2. It is only enjoyable when a "Hall of Fame Picker" who brags all the time, but loses most of the time, misses SO MANY football picks.
I really do like the Tulsa World, but its World Picker and his OSU homey groupies, not so much.

Has anybody ever seen Nit Picker and Smith together at an OU cheerleading function?
Or are they one and the same?
When did you guys graduate OU? Or did you just pass through.
Try picking against Oklahoma State before a game for a change.
WORLDPICKER

Speaking of wasting time, we've been reading your picks, Smith!.....
WORLDPICKER

And another thing for the two whiners: If this site is so painful, what are you doing here? Go where you can keep up, find some PR release. Life is apt to be too short for some of the angriest, so go where you're appreciated. Some chat room for groupies.
Alpha Dog

Hey NIT PICKER......drop Cox cable and get Dish or Direct TV...you obviously aren't watching Cable Channel 3. And "Hurricanes?" Yep, dem Golden "Hurricanes" really kicked some Mustang booty. You are starting to make Bill Land look literate.

What was I doing here? Slumming, I suppose. Anytime I'm in the mood for some brainless, monosyllabic babbling, I always check out the Picker's blog.

Picker,
You might direct the 2 sooner groupies to the Sports Animal. I think they would find the sooner hype much more to their liking.
Nit picker

Well, well, World Picker, aka OSU homer, did I hit a nerve? You are not cute when you are angry, you are just angry.
Tsk, tsk, OSU homers, it isn't good for your blood pressure to get all upset. I must admit I did not pick against the boys from Stoolwater before they played Troy. [They should beat the 'Horns, though.]
Sorry, don't know Smith. But he/she sounds like a smart, sane, reasonable, rational fan to me. No wonder OSU homers hate him. I bet he is banned in Stoolwater.
BTW, World Picker #5: just what would any of you OSU homies be doing at an OU cheerleading function, anyway? Scouting them for T-Bone Pickens?
nit picker
Alpha Dog: You mean the Goldenlocked Hurry Cains?
Are you a groupie of theirs?
I like TU. I really do. But their groupies, well, sometimes not so much. [yeah, I stole that line from the World Picker]

A Jones:
What is a Sports Animal? Do you keep them in cages over there in Stoolwater?
Anyway, World Picker has a multitude of readers, but not that big a multitude. He can't be sending them off to other fora.
PS: Hey, where are you, Doug F.- Meridian? Long time no hear from.
OSU Jeff

The sad thing about guys like NIT PICKER and MIKE are that they don't understand the point of The Picker, because they take themselves and their team SOOOOOOO seriously.
The whole point of this column is to poke fun of and laugh at just how seriously everyone takes themselves on the local sports scene... from the coaches to the cheerleader sports talk radio guys to the fans.
It's hilarious to me to see you arguing with The Picker. It's like when Bill O'Reiley argues with Stephen Colbert.
The satirist ALWAYS has the last laugh, because it's YOU who is being lampooned.
You're continued attempts to "slam" the Picker and substantiate yourself just makes you look more ridiculous.
Congratulations on not getting the joke, losers.

NIT WIT THE CHICKEN ****:
I am still here. Just been a little busy with this war stuff. Glad to see you are still up to your same old mOUronic tricks. Besides you still haven't answered any of my questions and you seem to not have any response to your BS rhetoric. I bet you have been busy with leading the mOUron convention this past weekend since it was an off week for Owho? I know you are a mOUron so I am posting it for you again taken from the WorldPickers comment section from the blog "The Inside Scoop on What's Wrong With OU":
You wrote: "Hey, Doug F.-Meridian: Man, your are looking good with the paragraphs. Glad to be of help.
Now, next week we will work on your syntax.
OH, btw, I do not recall that I have ever mentioned the number of NCs that OU has. You seem to be fixated on that. Why?"
I wrote: "NIT WIT the chicken S**T: How soon you forget that you are the poster child for mOUrons. Here let me refresh your memory. Of course you were in your 3rd person mode when you wrote this comment so it is no surprise you don't recall writing it, but the really funny thing is I found it in these posts on this blog "Who cares what is wrong with OU? They have 7 NCs and only have one loss this year, and won the Big 12 last year."
See you mOUrons November 24th bring all of your history and tradition with you. I am sure the Cowboys will roll over and play dead for the "Oh my gosh we are the SOONERS with 7 NC's." So quit worrying and go buy yourselves another useless article that depicts OU's 7 NC's or the score of this years OU vs Texas game or of course my all time favorite the one that depicts OU's all time record against OSU in football that will be wrong after November 24th forever. Unless that is you buy the one that shows OU's record of 78-16-7 then you might have a half a chance of it being right for at least another year. After all like LUCKY said it is only a game. OU SUCKS!! GO COWBOYS!!
You have never responded while your mOUron minions got the crap kicked out of them and just like always they have no answers either just insults for poor Doug F. the OSU homer who speaks the truth, but you mOUrons can't handle the truth. Instead we get an OU history and tradition lesson. Thanks for making me laugh and helping the time to pass while I am over here in the sand. So are any of the mOUrons ready to talk about this football season? OU SUCKS!! GO COWBOYS!!
Mike
Woah, how did my name get thrown in there with the NIT picker? The only thing I said is that I thought that OSU ran the option quite well. The difference seems to be the formation it is ran from. A & M runs it in an I formation "new school" wishbone whereas OSU obviously prefers the Spread. Apparently it works better in the Spread.
OSU Jeff

Hey Mike -
I "mis-typed" - I didn't mean you.
I was talking about this "WSMITH" character, and I must have just glanced down this thread, saw his posts and your name and crossed it all up.
Sorry! :-)

Mr. Smith: And this is offered with the best of intentions. Do you notice a consensus of thought from neutral and intelligent readers about your obsessions?
OkieJayhawk

This is really to all the sports folks at the World. Hello? There are thousands of Jayhawks who have made Tulsa their home...but rarely are they mentioned! Not even a sarcastic jab at our coach's size that seems to increase with each win! The Hawks rock! Looking forward to this weekend!

To: Doug F. Meridian
Doug: I'm a veteran. I do not believe an idiot like you is actually in the armed services of the U.S. Thus, I will require some proof that you are actually in harms way before I give you a pass on being such an OSU homer.
Which I will, if you are.
As for what I was doing this week-end, well, I suppose I should have suited up and played for T-Bone in Stoolwater as the Jayhawks made the Pukes look like Jenks HS. Note: I picked Kansas. Before the game.
As for not answering your questions, I don't see where you ever asked any questions. All you seem to be able to do is rant and rave and accuse others of ranting and raving.
So...who is the one who doesn't get it?
Here's the good news: OSU is 5-5. That's .500. Now if only that were a batting average.
To: OSU Jeff
I fear you are the one who is sad. I am not the one taking my team Soooo serioulsy. In fact I make fun if my alma mater on a regular basis. It is just that I can't seem to help myself when I see you and World Picker taking your team Soooooo serioulsy.
It is truly priceless when I hit a nerve and you OSU homers go ballistic sputtering, ranting, raving, railling against your lifelong nemsis. Telling me and others to 'go elsewhere', so you could have the blog all to yourselves. How nice.
If it weren't for posters like me and Smith this would be nothing more than a Stoolwater/OSU Pukes web site funded by T-Bone Pickens.
Question: Would OSU have beaten KU if OSU had allowed Chris Collins to play?
Follow up question: Just how old can a 12 year old look, anyway??
