Barkley Joins the Out Crowd

Once upon a time, there was a great little studio show tucked away late of a night after pro basketball games.

A couple or three guys sat around speaking their minds and cracking jokes and having a fun and funny time.

Production values appeared to be of a junior college level. When a team lost its last playoff game, player faces were superimposed on other bodies in a hilarious Gone Fishing bit.

Then the worst thing possible happened. People started watching. Big names were added, Mumbles, for one, Shaq. Now the set on the Turner network NBA studio show looks like something out of a super hero movie. Charles Barkley won an Emmy for his analytical work. And the show has gone straight into the tank. Nothing turns a person into a run of the mill know it all like a few people watching.

Week before last, Barkley picked Denver to defeat the Lakers. Oops.

Last night, he picked the Lakers to defeat the Thunder.

He's all serious over there, notes and stats galore.

He's turned into just another unfunny electronic media fathead.
