Batesole Gives ORU Reason to Celebrate

The University of Tulsa is proud, and rightfully so, that three former TU basketball coaches have gone on to win national championships.
Now, Oral Roberts has developed a similar trend across town.
Fresno State coach Mike Batesole, a former ORU baseball star, led the Bulldogs to the national baseball champiionship on Wednesday night in the College World Series.
Batesole, who played at ORU from 1983-85, is the second former Golden Eagle to be a national championship baseball coach.
Batesole's coach at Oral Roberts, Larry Cochell, went on to win the national championship at Oklahoma in 1994.
Batesole was the toast of cable sports talk on Thursday as he was being hailed for the improbable run of Fresno State.
Fresno was the lowest seeded team to ever win an NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs were a No. 4 seed in a regional (one of the lowest 16 out of the 64-team bracket).
ORU has reason to celebrate with Batesole. He never went on to play in the big leagues, as many expected, but he did something no other ORU baseball-playing alum has done - he's an NCAA championship coach.

Mike batesole did a great job. I am very happy that Fresno State won the big one. Go underdogs.
