Battle of the Sexes

Many people believe the great filly Rachel Alexandra will win the Preakness Saturday, defeating 12 males.

This just in: males and females are different.

The filly drew the 13 spot in the gate, not good.

She is going to have to gun it and get the lead, or gun it and get second.

If she attempts to conserve energy and save ground in the middle, that will be rough going against the males.

This group of males isn't great, but there are six or seven tough horses in there, and tough counts.

The filly will be lucky to get 5th.

The pick here is Papa Clem.

Nice outsider, General Quarters.

Oh no.
If Junior Sample likes him, I take it back.

Rachel Alexandra will win because of superior riding skills yeat again. Maybe after winning these last two races, he can afford to get teeth.

I wasted 30 seconds reading this blog... I'm ticked.

Horse racing is a "sport" only in the same sense that poker and facebook are.

40 acres. You need to know which jockey is riding R.A. Here's a clue. It's not the same jockey that rode M.T.B. in the Kentucky Derby. Picker?? You've lost your mind again. Take, "Take the Points" and run to the bank laughing.

Marathonman, I think it's more comparable to Nascar. The real athlete in each sport isn't the one for the ride. Rather, it's the vehicle itself.

But seriously, who really cares unless the Triple Crown is on the line?

MexiMike, Right - I'll give 'em NASCAR, too.
Frankly, I find it ludicrous that animals can be even described as athletes. So what if your dog can jump six feet in the air to catch a fribee? I hear there's a cheetah in Mozambique that is the best ever.....

aaaaaahhh......it's the day after. What a great testament to the Picker's prognosticating practices.

Wow Pick, good call.

Not only did you not get the right horse winning, the horse you wrote the entire blog about having NO chance winning at all did in fact, win.

Your next blog title should read: "Picker Fails, Hilarity Ensues."

Gimme a break. He said she would have to "gun it and get the lead" early, then hold off the boys to win, and that's exactly what she did. He said she wouldn't be able to withstand a beating in the pack to win, and she avoided that. He said these boys weren't great, and they weren't. So to all you Sunday morning touts: where are YOUR picks for the Belmont? Or are you just going to wait until after the race to pop off again? Personally, I still like Mine That Bird - they've figured out what to do with that little guy: let him cruise until the stretch, then step on the peddle and watch him go!

I love the outcome.

Old Titan, here's another quote for you:

"The filly will be lucky to get 5th."

Questions?

By the way, I'm no expert on horse racing nor claim to be. I have no idea who will win the Belmont and really don't care much either. But when somebody constantly strokes their own ego as much as Pick does, it's good to knock them down a few pegs from time to time...especially when the prediction is as glaringly awful as this.

CLEM CADIDDLEHOPPER?THERE WAS A GUY WHO WROTE A BOOK MADE INTO A MOVIE ABOUT A WILDLY SUCCESSFUL HORSE BETTOR.HE PROBABLY LIKED DOGS AND PLAYING CATCH BUT HE FORGOT TWO THINGS. FIRST NEVER OFFER BETTING ADVICE OF ANY KIND AND SECOND:NORTHWEST WAS BEST.
Old Titan (4 years ago)
MexiMike: Yes, he said she would be lucky to get 5th. But he didn't say she couldn't win - he just said she would need some luck to do so. And, sure enough, she had some luck: she was able to get out in front early, without too much trouble, from the 13th gate. Which proves two things: she's really fast, and these boys weren't. Simple as that. The question now is whether she can stay fast for a mile and a half in The Belmont. Time will tell...
