Be afraid, Bevo

Next Sept. 8, a Big 12 South heavyweight could get the fight of its 2007 nonconference life, on its home field no less.
Oklahoma against Miami?
Don't think so. The Hurricanes' talent gap is too wide to expect a nail-biter in Norman.
But later that day, TCU might take Texas to the wire in Austin.
The Horned Frogs pop up in just about everybody's preseason top 25. I've seen them as high as No. 8, and more than one national pundit has labeled them "this year's Boise State."
The same defense that smacked around Garrett Wolfe and Northern Illinois in last December's Poinsettia Bowl returns nine starters, including All-America candidate Tommy Blake at end. That's a potential handful for a Texas offensive line that lost Justin Blalock and Lyle Sendlein.
If the Frogs only had a proven quarterback -- they must replace 2006 starter Jeff Ballard -- to take advantage of a rebuilt Texas secondary, you could sound a loud upset alert.
As it is, given Gary Patterson's coaching resume and given what happened when the Frogs came to Owen Field two years ago, the Longhorns will be happy to put Sept. 8 behind them.
