Bedlam is Best in Tulsa

Bedlam baseball is best in Tulsa.
Actually, Bedlam anything is best in Tulsa.
Nothing against Oklahoma City, Norman or Stillwater, but Bedlam Series events in Tulsa are appreciated more by folks in northeastern Oklahoma.
We don’t get to see Oklahoma and Oklahoma State play in Tulsa very often.
So, when the Cowboys and Sooners come to town it is a big deal.
Friday night’s Bedlam baseball game is a sellout at ONEOK Field.
That isn’t a surprise. The Sooners and Cowboys almost always draw a full house when they venture up the Turner Turnpike and the Cimarron Turnpike to Tulsa.
This is a simple matter of supply and demand. There is very little supply of Bedlam events and so the demand is through the roof for Bedlam events here in Tulsa.
That isn’t the case in Oklahoma City. The Big Eight and now Big 12 baseball tournament has been a fixture in Oklahoma City since the 1970s. So, OU and OSU playing baseball in downtown Oklahoma City is not a big deal.
Plus, let’s be realistic. Norman is little more than a suburb of Oklahoma City. So, a Bedlam game in Norman is like a Tulsan going to Bixby for vegetables.
Stillwater is not a long distance for Oklahoma City or Tulsa. So, those games are very accessible for the state’s two biggest cities.
What makes Bedlam in Tulsa so special is that it is in our hometown. No two-hour drive to Norman (or three hours in football).
No hour drive to Stillwater then fighting your way through traffic to get a parking spot within eyesight of Boone Pickens Stadium.
OU athletic director Joe Castiglione and OSU athletic director Mike Holder should consider putting other Bedlam events in Tulsa.
We know football isn’t coming. So, how about a basketball game? Maybe women’s basketball?
How about a tennis match? Perhaps men’s or women’s golf?
Hey, what about a preseason intrasquad football scrimmage like OU did in Tulsa a few years ago?
We’ll take it and prove to you that everything Bedlam is golden in Tulsa.

WRONG. The Bricktown Ballpark is a much better venue. It holds nearly twice as many people (13,066 vs 7833), it's usually a sellout in the Brick, and there's so much more around it than OneOK field, particularly Bricktown itself. And Bricktown continues to grow and expand. Highway access and road capacity in Oklahoma City is better than Tulsa, the roads are better in OKC than Tulsa, and parking is easier at The Brick.

I'm a native Tulsan, so this isn't some OKC bias thing. I can say that keeping the majority of Bedlam events in Oklahoma City is the right way to go.

Bedlam being in the Norman suburb of OKC twice compared to only once in the oSu stronghold of Tulsa is simple ou bias. Only a sooner could ignore the solid supply and demand equilibrium argument put forth in the blog article. It is East vs. West Oklahoma and West wins through politics.
