Big 12 to Be Cheated by BCS
Published: 10/5/2010 4:12 PM
Last Modified: 10/5/2010 4:15 PM

Here we go again with the nasty and probably illegal BCS.

Talk about disgusting. There are but three contenders for the title game the first of October. The undefeated SEC winner is like the host title game team. A one-loss champ would cause more problems for the chiselers in charge. We can always hope.

Next in line, for reasons known only to Kirk Homerstreit and certain other Big Ten homer hounds at ESPN, is Ohio State. This moderately above average Ohio State team has punchless Penn State and defenseless Michigan in Columbus. The only danger is at below average Wisky. Michigan is a watered down version of Oregon, great offense (with a qb who could go out on any play), horrific defense. Were Ohio State to line up against Boise State or TCU, we'd eagerly play either of the latter. OU would soundly thump the Buckeyes, Nebraska to a slightly lesser degree.

Alabama doesn't have it easy at all -- at LSU, at Tennessee -- this weekend at South Carolina is the greatest risk to an undefeated season.

So while Alabama stomps Ohio State or Michigan into the ground, the Big 12 champion, Boise State and TCU will have just been robbed. We'd rank the best of those victims in this order: 1. Big 12 champ, Boise State, tie. 2. TCU.

How long can a land founded on fairness tolerate cheating at its institutions of higher learning?

Mr. Picker, is this prediction in the "first" week of October, based upon the sterling play of Big XII teams in BCS Bowls in recent years?
The Picker (2 years ago)
That's probably why Ohio State is ranked ahead of the Big 12 teams, all right. Missouri beat Ill with more ease than did Ohio State.

DomoArrigato (2 years ago)
Regardless of how anyone is playing, the BCS needs to be changed to a playoff system. The bowls would still exist and host different rounds of the playoff...but the best two teams will meet in the championship...not the most popular with the BCS two teams.

Far be it from me to show a little patience, but I'd like to see the first BCS poll before bashing the results. Assuming none of the top teams lose, 'Blama is a certain numero uno. But Ohio State 'n Boise could certainly be passed up by Oregon due to their strength of sched.

And dare I say...OU might be ranked higher than fifth or sixth due to playing teams with a heartbeat. December could be quite nice to the Sooners if they remain undefeated and Florida State 'n Air Force run the table.

On second thought, I dare not say...

I used to think I hated Alabama then I met their fans & found out they were a class act.... Roll Tide !!!!

I'd much rather see Ohio St. rolled by them than OU....

Or Oklahoma State....

I see Okie St. winning the Big 12 & facing Boise St somewhere.... If they could beat Boise St, wouldn't that be like little brother doing something big brother couldn't do ????
LaffALot (2 years ago)
Ohio St might get Buck-Eyed by them Badgers, but the Big 10 currently does have 4 undefeated teams, most of any BCS conference.

Very astute comment by Kenmore about OU’s nonconference schedule, Fl St (4-1) could win the ACC or @ least their Atlantic division & never give an inch ‘tuff Air Force (4-1) gets Utah @ home & could give TCU “fits” & now that Cincy has their running back back, they could contend in the weak Big “Least”

Remember rarely is their more than one undefeated team by the end of the season. It is possibility though, that 6 teams (Pac 10, Big 10, SEC, & Big 12 + Boise St. &/or TCU/Utah) could run the table. Wonder how “messy” that’ll be for them BCS boys?
MexiMike (2 years ago)
Tusandn, you're about to make a lot of people mad with that comment. Haha!

Seriously though, as an OSU fan, I think the team may still be a bit too young to accomplish that goal. With that said, I definitely wouldn't mind a nine win season in a year that is supposed to be a time for rebuilding...especially when all the media "experts" were predicting OSU to finish 6-6 or worse.

tulsadn: It's Ocotober so ok to dream I guess...I assume you watched A&M run over 100 plays and pick up over 520 yards? Only Jerrod Johnson's impersonation of Thomas Lott saved your Aggies from their Aggies. Better worry about about the Ragin Cajuns before you start heading to Jerry World for the Big XII title game...

If OSU Cowboys had Boise State's schedule they would be in a BCS bowl, maybe the big one. Of course so would a lot of other teams.
BLA (2 years ago)
Big Ten is awful...they're slow (except for the Michigan and Ohio St QB's) and haven't played anyone at all.

Picker, I like your illegal BCS. It is the very definition of a monopoly because everyone knows its about the money and not the games. There is a reason Congress has been scrutinizing it over anti-trust issues.

a BCS poll predictor has them ordered this way in a prelude to next week's BCS rankings release: 1) Bama 2) Boise St. 3) OU 4) Oregon 5) TCU 6) Ohio State

If you're one of the big boys bagging on Boise St's schedule, then put them on the schedule and play them on a neutral field and see how it goes. I am sure their coach has taken the "anyone anywhere" approach to scheduling because it doesn't make sense for Boise St to travel cross-country and play Virginia Tech in Washington, DC. The same with TCU...you don't see Texas and OU running to play them now, even though regionally it makes more sense than playing a Cincinnati.

I say let Boise play so they can shut up when they get beat by Alabama. Boise is a good team but they are going to whine til they get their chance at it.

@ LaffALot...FYI...Big 12 has five undefeated teams right now. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Nebraska, and Missouri.
LaffALot (2 years ago)
Thanks for the correction. You would 'thunk that IF the Big 12 can get both an undefeated North team & undefeated South Team in the Big 12 Championship game down in Jerry World, the winner would have alot to "cry" about IF they get left out of the BCS Championship game

Sorry about the "triple" post. Wish we could edited them out....

Oh no!! I totally agree with the Picker on this one.

Setting aside what should be (you know). This is what IS for 2010:

Automatic Qualification

1. The top two teams in the final BCS Standings shall play in the National Championship Game.

2. This year, the BCS Standings will once again include three components: USA Today Coaches Poll, Harris Interactive College Football Poll and an average of six computer rankings.

3. Each component will count one-third of a team's overall BCS score in the BCS Standings.

The "Harris Interactive College Football Poll" will start showing up Oct. 10.

The BCS Standings will show up Oct. 17.

This contraption was, and remains, a cluster flock. Money talks. In 1959 America put two monkeys in space and brought them back alive. This is the best we can do?

FYI: This week the machines have Boise State #1, Alabama #2 and TCU #3.

Broken Arrow High School plays a tougher schedule than Boise St.

Arbythree: What is up with you, you're doing so well in the picks contest! Have you hacked into the Picker's research? Are you copying?

Isn't that computer poll based in Oklahoma? Shouldn't that help?

About foes doing well: Did anybody notice Va Tech beat an undefeated NC State team and still Boise slipped?

It's all an unfair bunch of garbage.

Wait until OU runs the table and Ohio State beats it out. The the OU law school will be heard from.

Woof! woof woof woof!!

(update: Arbythree is clever indeed, but donnie is REALLY smart!)

Pick Va Tech also lost to James Madison--at home.

Maybe that has something to do with it?

The season is long.....very long.

Once again, the annual October hand-wringing over the big, bad BCS is unfounded: Bama the first of many (most? all?) early Top Ten-ers to take it on the chin. Ohio State looms next to fall, vs. pesky Wisky or ravenous Wolverines. OU and Nebraska too flawed to survive 12-game schedules unscathed. Oregon best shot, but must navigate 9-game conference slate with Jeckyl-and-Hyde defense. One wonders if Boise and TCU will meet once again, this time in the championship game, simply by default. Regardless, smart money says it will all work itself out. Which is why they all play games through November, and not just mid-October.
