This is a recruiting blog while awaiting the start of Bedlam basketball Monday -- and isn't it a shame that Bedlam seems almost like a secondary subject today because of signing day? Maybe Ryan Broyles can play for both Bedlam hoops teams tonight.
A few random recruiting thoughts:
--Are events in the Middle East hurting the recruiting classes of Army, Navy and Air Force?
Hats off the guys who play football and then go off to serve our country. But you wonder if some kids are avoiding the service academies because they don't want to dodge bullets in a few years.
--Recruiting classes are like strength coaches. Everybody has got a great one, allegedly.
--National signing day has gotten incredibly out of hand and recruiting rankings are sometimes as valid as synthetic cheese. Keep in mind that Barry Sanders wasn't even the most coveted player at his high school when he signed a letter of intent. It seems like Sanders turned out to be a somewhat decent player.

Tulsa World sports writer Jimmie Tramel is a former class president at Locust Grove High School. He graduated magna cum laude from Northeastern State University with a journalism degree and, while attending college, was sports editor of the Pryor Daily Times. He joined the Tulsa World on Oct. 17, 1989, the same day an earthquake struck the World Series. He is the OSU basketball beat writer and a columnist and feature writer during football season. In 2007, he wrote a book about Oklahoma State football with former Cowboy coach Pat Jones.
