Bowl Carryover is Limited

Every coach loves to talk about how great it is to win a bowl game and all of the carryover from a victory.
Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy mentioned that after Monday's 49-33 victory over Inidiana. Then, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops also talked about the advantages of winning a bowl game on Tuesday at the final Fiesta Bowl pre-game press conference.
However, there is a limit. It may help somewhat in recruting. It may help in motivating some players in the off-season.
But the only real benefit, even Stoops admitted, was a month or so of positive press.
Otherwise, forget about the longterm impact. For instance, OU suffered a devastating loss in last year's Fiesta Bowl but opened this season with four sensational and lopsided victories.
On the other hand, Oklahoma Statre won a thrilling Independence Bowl last year but opened this year by getting hammered in two of its first three games.
Stoops said the good feelings of winning a bowl game goes away pretty quick. It is a different year, different team every year. As a result, there is a limit to what you can reap from a bowl game.
Still, winning is always better.
