Bradford's Loss Killed OU Chances
Published: 11/17/2007 11:38 PM

Texas Tech's offense figured to be a huge hurdle for Oklahoma to clear on Saturday night in Lubbock.
So, most believed OU needed to be a peak form on offense to beat the Red Raiders.
When Sam Bradford was knocked out on OU's first offensive play, making a tackle, it made that hurdle too high to clear.
Oklahoma got back in the game, and had chances to really put the heat on Tech in the last minutes, but it was not enough in a 34-27 loss.
Anyone that wondered how valuable Bradford was to OU now knows. He was the key to the season.
And, without him, Oklahoma did not seem to have the firepower to mount a comeback.
The Sooners did get back in it but Tech made a couple of stops to win the game.
College football has been a wild season of upsets. Tech's victory was just the latest in a long line of wild games.
It was the second time this season that Oklahoma had lost a game most figured the Sooners would win easily.
With victories over Texas and Missouri, Oklahoma has reclaimed its spot on top of the Big 12 South standings.
Now, it has more work to do to get back to the Big 12 title game.

I hope Bradford is alright. He looked pretty out of it on the sidelines.

John - you were probably the only person who "thought OU would win pretty easily."

The injury no doubt hurt but hats off to Tech for making plays.

Sooners are injury riddled - Bradford, Auting English, Alan Davis and Demarco Kelly.

Excuses, Excuses. Bradford does not play defense as well does he? The fact is OU is average at best. They have lost 2 of their 3 only true roads games and almost lost the third against a poor Iowa State team. The game at TU was basically a nuetral site. It is always easier to play at home than on the road.

Scott, I wouldn't say that OU is average but I agree that a national championship for this team is fool's gold. Defense started out playing well and got exposed No doubt the loss of Austin English has hurt - no pass rush for the last 2 games. Has this team had to play LSU in New Orleans it would have beenugly. That said, I'm proud of how the team fought back and made it a game.

Bradford being hurt certainly didn't help OU's chances, but they were going to lose this game anyway. Nobody wins in Lubbock at night, especially an OU team who's proven to struggle outside of Owen Field. If you thought OU was winning this game you must've been smoking some wacky weed. Also, it really hurts OU that Stoops doesn't insert his backups earlier in blowout wins so they can get valuable experience for games like last night. Halzle was so off for so many series before he got going that it was too late to come back from such a large deficit.

Bradford is no doubt their MVP, and OU may have one. But hats off to Lalzle, who I believe performed very admirably and really stepped up, despite not winning the game.

Scott you sound like an OSU fan. What's your favorite saying "Wait till Next Year"

I find it absolutely mind boggling that nobody mentions two things: kevin wilson's horrible playcalling, and the reviewed play at the very end of the game.

"Left Oklahoma to rely heavily on the run?" That's B.S. On only 1 of 5 possessions did OU run for the first play. EVerything else was a throw by a quarterback who is out of his league. Kevin WIlson's obvious dislike for the running game is appalling. T-Tech has consistently failed to stop the run all year, so what do we do? WE PASS? With a horribly uncomfortable quarterback. Which makes me wonder: just how much time would T-Tech have had to score in the 1st half if we would've moved the ball with the run game? It's an absolute travesty when an O coordinator FAILS TO SEE WHO HIS BIG PLAYERS ARE WHEN NEEDED MOST, AND INSTEAD OPTS TO PUT THE GAME IN THE HANDS OF A QUARTERBACK WHO IS OUT OF HIS LEAGUE.

The review could be called sour grapes by me, but the ball wasn't out. Both players had their hands on the ball, and both players had a foot inbounds. The ball never touched the ground, which means SOMEBODY CAUGHT IT. Then who? Manual Johnson had 2 hands on it, the Tech guy had 1. You tell me who had possession. Even if you say it's a tie, or possession couldn't be differentiated between the two, then A TIE OF POSSESSION ALWAYS GOES TO THE WR. THAT'S IN THE RULEBOOK. Once again, OU gets robbed in Lubbock, even after they sucked it up, the refs called everything on us and nothing on them, and our own offensive coordinator screws up. Why do you think Tech scored so many points? BECAUSE THE OU DEFENSE WAS ON THE FIELD FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE GAME. That's simple football...

Nobody was talking about OSU, Bill. Are you worried?
Rade Coberts (5 years ago)
scott:

no one ever talks about osu. it's cuz they suck. why should anyone be worried. the best thing you can hope for is ou to give you a 21 point lead in the 4th quarter to defend. i'm sure you have no idea how to do that though.
SCOTTII (5 years ago)
Rage: Is Stoops not in control of Wilson. YOU DON'T SEEM TO MENTION THAT?
Rade Coberts (5 years ago)
scott:

my name is rade, not rage.

i guess if stoops was a man, and was 40 years old, he could take it?
ScottII (5 years ago)
Rage, Rage, Rage Answer the question. You don't hold Stoops accountable?
Rade Coberts (5 years ago)
Scottii,

that's a dumb question. do i hold a coach responsible? of course i do. it's OU. it has tradition. they're expected to win championships, not just the odd Big XII game. That's the difference between OU and OSU. OU hires people who want to contend for championships, osu hires people who rants at a woman on a national conference, and then ironically calls himself a man. A 40 year old one at that.

OU = Overrated University

Rade, Rage, Moron, whatever. You are a shrill whining idiot. You've griped about the same play call on three different posts. OU was out played. Nuff' said.
Pete (5 years ago)
I for one am proud that OSU is NEVER over-rated. They say we are crappy, but we are always better than crappy...well into mediocre territory...go OSU!
Mark V (5 years ago)
John, losing Bradford didn't doom OU's BCS dreams. Their dream was crushed by Stoops not ensuring that his back-up was prepared to step up when the game was on the line.

In that regard, Gundy did a better job preparing Robinson to take the reins than Stoops did with Halzle. Before he became a starter, Robinson played several series in games throughout last year when games were still in doubt to prepare him as the starter this year.

Although I didn't understand it at the time, but in retrospect, Gundy appears to be the genius for his preparation.

Who is this Bradford you speak of?
