Brodrick Brown: I guess I just had wings

Oklahoma State is an ESPY award candidate in the category of Best Play.
The play? During Bedlam last season, cornerback Brodrick Brown was airborne above the sideline and batted what seemed to be an incomplete pass back in bounds to teammate Shaun Lewis for an interception.
OSU’s sports information department conducted a question-and-answer session with Brown on Thursday and sent a transcript to media outlets. Fan voting at www.espn.com/espys will determine ESPY winners.
Following is the Q-and-A transcript:
--On learning he was nominated for an ESPY Award:
“I was shocked. I was happy and honored to even be up for it. I give all the glory to God that I was able to be nominated.”
--His description of the play:
“It was a crucial down and we were trying to get off the field. I was doing everything in my power to create a turnover and get the defense off the field. I saw the quarterback was scrambling and trying to throw it out of bounds. I was actually trying to get the interception, but I was falling out of bounds so threw it back in. Luckily, Shaun Lewis was there to catch the ball.”
--On what he was thinking as he left his feet:
“I was trying to get the interception, but an interception doesn’t count if you’re out of bounds, so I just had the presence of mind to toss it back in. I knew Shaun Lewis was there, but I didn’t know that he would have the awareness to be ready to catch it and return it how he did, so credit goes to him because he made the play complete.”
--On the reaction of the team when he came to the sidelines:
“They were just like ‘what did you just do?’ and I didn’t even know. I guess I just had wings on that play and flew high in the sky to tip the ball back in.”
--On his competition in the voting, a bicycle-kick goal from soccer player Wayne Rooney”:
“Basically, he did a back flip in the air and scored a goal with it. Both of our plays are similar because they were made in the air.”
--On the voting process:
“I just encourage people to go out there and vote for me and Shaun. It’s not going to be easy. We made a play that nobody has ever seen before. All the college football fans out there, if you want to help us advance to the next round, we would truly appreciate your votes.”
