Broken Arrow female golfer makes men's tour debut

Broken Arrow resident Isabelle "Izzy" Beisiegel took her first crack at smashing a gender barrier Thursday.

Beisiegel, a 32-year-old former University of Oklahoma golfer, became the first female ever to earn a playing card on a men's professional golf tour when she qualified for the Canadian Tour on Memorial Day weekend.

She made her Canadian Tour debut on Thursday, fighting through nervous energy to shoot 7-over par 78 at the ATB Financial Classic at Bearspaw Country Club.

Stay tuned for details. Beisiegel is keeping notes during her history-making journey for a story that will be published in the Tulsa World when the Canadian Tour ends this fall. Her husband, former OU football player Dan Beisiegel, is her caddie.

This is a joke. She can't make it on the Futures Tour and not even close on the LPGA Tour, so why would I care if she plays on some tour that's a step above being an amateur? Is she playing in the US Women's Open next week? I doubt it.

He graduated magna cum laude from Northeastern State University with a journalism degree and, while attending college, was sports editor of the Pryor Daily Times. He joined the Tulsa World on Oct. 17, 1989, the same day an earthquake struck the World Series. He is the OSU basketball beat writer and a columnist and feature writer during football season.
