Bruce Howard Scores

With all the TV, sometimes we forget just how good some sports announcers are on the radio.

TU's Bruce Howard is far and away the best play-by-play announcer in the state, and probably one of the best in the country; and it's a good thing, as infrequently as TU has been on the tube lately.

Sometimes Bruce can see uncalled fouls against TU that happen at the bottoms of piles.

He is so proficient at projecting an image through the radio, you can tell how a basketball play is proceeding in its middle simply by his tone.

His radio call of TU's exciting upset win over UAB Thursday was probably better than TV would have been.

In other sports news, the World's Dave Sittler had an excellent piece Thursday about the inexplicable lack of confidence afforded hoop coach Sean Sutton by Cowboy AD Holder. Such inaction makes you think that OSU sports team owner Pickens has not yet told the AD what to think.

Bruce is definately the best. I friggin hate listening to OU's games in the car because how bad that old man that calls games for them is.

yeah bruce is incredible. the way he announces the game you can close your eyes and visualize exactly what's happening.

Picker, although I do agree that Holder definitely should have backed Coach Sean by now, I don't believe the article Sittler wrote was in good taste. The entire article is written based on rumors and hearsay in effort to add more drama and speculation to a situation that already has enough to rival a cheesy soap opera. I'm not saying Sittler had bad intentions but I don't see how spreading rumors through such a public forum is good for anyone. In fact, I'm a feeling a bit of deja vu hitting me from another article written earlier this sports calendar year...

Picker ... you rang the bell again!!

Bruce Howard is simply the best. If younger people who listen can actually close their eyes and "watch" the game ... he is magic!

For us oooold folks, it's easier, because we grew up "watching" the radio! LOL

Bruce describes the game, adds the color, stokes the emotion, and keeps up with the play better than any other play-by-play man I've heard.

Mark Neely (now at ORU) is the seconmd-best, in my opinion.

Add Rick Couri to the broadcast with Bruce and you have a team that is unmatchd!

Thanks for giving him big kudos, Picker. You appear to have the bestest judgement in the media!

Rick Couri?? As a TU alum, listening to him on the football broadcasts almosts makes me want to put an ice pick in my ear... Bruce Howard is pretty good, but Couri is unlistenable, as he thinks he has to be like Phil Simms and treat the listener as if they have never watched a game of football in their life...
Only Couri usually doesn't even know what he is talking about...

I like Rick Couri, he is a devoted TU guy and pretty darned good too. Even if you don't like him, it's not fair to say he doesn't know what he's talking about, the guy knows football and is not a dummy on basketball either. We all have opinions, but I disagree with yours.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
