Bruising and Breaking News!

Breaking news: Tim Tebow is sipping iced tea and starting on some homework.

In other stuff, how do you geniuses like the Virginia Tech pick over Miami now?

Somebody from Vegas called to say that we were the number one picker of college football games so far this season. Ho hum. What else is new. One of the secrets is identifying highly rated teams that stink. Like Penn State. Like Miami. Here's one that is going to get clocked soon: Michigan. Whereas that team is better than last year, it is still a stomping waiting to be experienced.

Who will get cheated most this year? Has to be Boise, which held Oregon to a few inches of offense, and will sail through undefeated. Too bad its conference is a confederancy of punters. Who else could be better than you think? Nebraska. Though its coach can't stop the long pass late. Nebraska did totally dominate Virginia Tech until the late choke.

Grade the Sports Ditz (also known as the Sports Blitz) Sunday night TV show featuring what's left of Channel 6 and its ruling OKC counterpart: As a public relations outlet for coach-speak and fan-type cheerleading: A-plus-plus-plus. As an objective review of football insight and creative picking prowress: F-quadruple minus. But it's pretty funny even though it doesn't mean to be.

Fans of running quarterbacks: The Baylor quarterback is the latest to be gone. We've told you for years that if you run around 250-pound battering rams, your playing days are numbered.

Breaking news: Tim Tebow is watching the news on TV.

Houston and Texas Tech are hard-core system operations; neither quarterback seems able to get one to the end zone from the 50. The zebras in the Houston-Tech game should never work again. They were horrendous. Tech was robbed of the quarterback sneak touchdown that was whistled down too early.

How could everybody have forgotten than Michael Vick was one of the worst passers in football history before he went to the slammer?

True, Favre looks old and tired and feeble. But: that 50-yard fast ball to the back of the end zone, and the catch, with two seconds left to win the game, was one of the greatest plays in the history of the sport, college or pro.

The uniforms worn Saturday by TU should be taken to Lake Yahola and buried deep under Turtle Bay.

OU favored by 6-7 at Miami? Pass the smelling salts. The Triple Lock of the Double Century.

Breaking news: Tim Tebow is now the subject of even more breaking news.

And houston was robbed of a game changing pick, not to mention spotted a full yard short of where they should have been spotted nearly every time they snapped the ball. One of the worst officiated games i saw all week....

Listening to one of the local sports shows a few days ago, I learned the key to the OU-Miami game:  "If Miami is able to run the ball, and get their passing game going, and put some points on the board, OU will have their work cut out for them".  How do these guys know so much?
The Picker (3 years ago)
Deoro: Yeah, dozens of plays were officially blotched. But a sneak for a touchdown with no whistle?Hatter: Only thing I can think of is they must read the OKC paper.

I'm getting a bit tired of the media coverage of Tim Tebow. He is a good runner. However, Tebow isn't a good passer. In addition, he doesn't slide when a defender is about to hit him. Instead, Tebow takes the hit. With his style of running, he'll be lucky to last for one season in the NFL. Of course, I wouldn't expect any of the folks from the Eastern Sports Programming Network to understand that.

I listened to the Sports Blitz for a while. It was funny at first. However, I got tired of it and it's been about 5 years since I've last watched it. Does it still show sportscasters playing golf?

Love the TU threads. They will never lose a man at sea.

The question is OU_Glenn, why couldn't a guy the size of Tebow take hits like that and last in the NFL? Tebow is the size of a linebacker. Do you have any idea the kind of hits linebackers take on a weekly basis? Far worse than any QB does, especially with the sissified NFL rules. The reason Tebow won't make it as a QB in the NFL is because he can't throw, that's it.

Also(not directed at anyone who has posted), the people celebrating the brain injury of what seems like a decent guy are disgusting. I really can't believe the things I'm hearing from OU fans in this state. Their hatred of Tebow is far worse than ESPN shoving him down our throats.

Agreed. Tebow won't make it in the pros because he can't pass the football. As a QB in the NFL, he won't be able to run all over the place.

I don't ever celebrate when a player from another team gets hurt. It is unfortunate that Tebow's injury occured, and I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

As tired as i am of hearing about Tim Tebow willing his team to victory week after week year after year , I am not  happy he got hurt .  I would much rather hear that he lost a game to Georgia  or some other overrated sec team.

Funny how all the gooner fans are jealous of Tebow......

Picker Dude:  Great stuff.  Don't always agree w/ you but you write some very amusing "columns".  The replay on the Favre play that shows the view from his back is outstanding.  The receiver is nowhere in sight when he throws the ball, as you said, 50 yards.  The proverbial "frozen rope".  The receiver did not do a shabby job either.  And I am not a Favre fan, but am a quasi Vikings fan now that they have Peterson, Loadholt and Cooper.

funny how the stool water  fans are all jealous of OU

Fire The Pols: Your nickname never wears out, does it. That was the best football play I've ever seen. Did you notice Favre was obliterated a second after he threw that thing?

Am I the only one stunned by OU being favored 6 at Miami?

OU was favored around 17-20 versus TU, and six here?

Don't get it.
OutPickMyNose (3 years ago)
Boomer,

Ya, you are right. OSU fans are so jealous of OU's 2-1 start. Wait....

OSU has the same record.

Well, you can always try again next time! Keep it up.
justanotherokie (3 years ago)
Just dug up an interesting statistic.  OU has not overcome a 4th Quarter deficit of over 3 points in the least 9 years.  Say it ain't so Pickerman.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
