C-USA's Time to Shine

This is the week Conference USA can make some noise on the national college football scene.
Or, it can remain a seldom-noticed league on the national football stage.
C-USA teams have a chance for a handful of big upsets that could catapult the conference to some notoriety.
Marshall is at Wisconsin, Southern Miss at Auburn, West Virginia at East Carolina, Houston at OSU, Tulane at Alabama, South Florida at UCF and Texas goes to UTEP.
Any Conference USA victories on that list will get plenty of attention.
East Carolina has the best chance to make some headlines. The Pirates have already beaten Virginia Tech. A victory over West Virginia would be two wins against two ranked teams in two weeks.
So, it is time for Conference USA to make their case that they belong with the big boys of college football.

Belong where, exactly? We're never ever going to be a BCS conference, nobody's just going to hand over millions of dollars and the program upgrades that come with them. Why does conference USA have to have upsets against 20 point spreads every weekend to prove something? Don't mind those five touchdowns you're getting against Texas UTEP, you better win or else John Klein won't respect the league, he has won many writing awards you know, it says under his picture.

Seriously though, Klein. C'mon . . . .

Most likely upsets from that list:
Houston over OSU...Houston is a much better team than WaSU.
UCF over So Fla- Wouldn't necessarily categorize that as an upset now, would you?
Of course, East Carolina gets the pub for beating up a down VaTech team ( a team of smoke and mirrors who played in a BCS bowl last year...but c'mon). The only thing upsets will do is improve the strength of the conference over say MWC or WAC and if one team should go undefeated, it would give that team an advantage of going to a CBS bowl over another (however unlikely) undefeated non-BCS team. The sad thing is, with the way the season shakes out say TU and Fresno St. go undefeated throughout and are the only undefeated teams in the nation...only one of them gets to go to a BCS bowl and some hack team from the ACC or Big East will be playing for the $15mill payout. The overlords of college football (U presidents) have decided another 1984 BYU will never occur again in college football. The BCS is a monopoly and a few of the non-BCS schools and their lawyers need to attack it head on until it is fair for all and only then will people outside of Fresno and Tulsa get to see the great, exciting brand of football these "lesser" teams play.
BTW, Charles Clay and Brennan Marion could play and start for any team in the country...

C' mon yourself, guys. Let's hope we have some exciting football this year and see Tulsa and Conference USA be real competitors for the Big 12 and SEC. I hope you are right, John.
