If coaches can, why not reporters?
Matt Barnard/Tulsa World

Hey, Bobby Knight's sweater just gave me an idea.
Knight has the logo of an auto parts chain plastered on the sweater he wears during games.
It's an endorsement deal. The auto parts store pays Knight a bundle of cash and, because he is highly visible, he becomes a walking billboard. It's advertising with legs.
Say what you want about Knight, but he's savvy enough to know how to earn a bit of pocket change.
Ethical question: Should reporters do the same? If I know I am going to be courtside at the Final Four or in the line of camera fire at another big sporting event, what if I wore a shirt that said "Eat at Country Cottage" or "Eat at Dairy Deal?"
It's not a trick that I am going to try anytime soon because I enjoy employment. But I wonder if some business would actually pay me to be a billboard, if I was goofy enough to give it a try.
Reporters aren't supposed to be for sale, even if we are hustling delicacies like strawberries and crust or weaser sandwiches.

Reporters aren't for sale. Does/should that extend to TV sports directors?

How can John Holcomb look himself in the mirror when he allows his OSU gig to drive what he shows on KOTV sports?

What the heck, Jimmie ... if he can sell out, why can't you pick up a dollar or two???
