Calling All Doubters
Published: 5/4/2007 4:44 PM
Last Modified: 5/4/2007 4:44 PM

Before the Dirk Noshotski masterpiece, we had approximately ten doubters, maybe a dozen. Then, as the multitudes were praising the Mavericks and their silly owner, we parted the confetti and proclaimed Dirk Noshotski to be the most overrated player in the NBA.

And would you look at that. He rings up eight skinny ones in a loss to what resembled an And One street ball team.

What's the point?

We simply want to reassure you that we will not misuse the gift. When we say Bob Stoops needs to quit being snippy with the press and get his sense of humor back, and when we wonder if the OU baseball should be on the clock, don't you wonder: Is he like the Medium of TV fame?

Dirk and his boys looked as SCARED as any NBA team I have ever seen

Picker, heckuva pick on the Derby. I just checked the results and didn't see any sign of your nags in the W/P/S positions. Can't wait to see how you're going to blame your lousy picks on the Oklahoma City sports homers. Ciao, say I, with a big grin.

You are direct proof the infinite monkey theorem is true.

How about that pick on Partly Cloudy Galloway.

The OU hardball program nears ruin.

Simon: You're on the wrong blog. You might try Mad Magazine.

Smith: There's nobody less deserving of time than somebody with lots of hindsight and no foresight.

W Smith (6 years ago)
Yes there is, Picker. Someone who crows about his picking record and supports his ego by only touting his 'hits' and completely ignoring his 'misses.' You've been doing it for years and you know it.
JAMES (6 years ago)
I think Smith is very short or was picked on as a child
Funny (6 years ago)
I like the cartoon of the Picker. I think it's funny. That's a very funny cartoon of you, Picker.

The cartoon of Sittler is funny too.
W Smith (6 years ago)
Neither, actually. But I probably do have an exaggerated sense of fairness and to sit by and watch our dear Picker friend, year in and year out, stick out his chest and blow forth proclaimations of his sports foresights is simply, sorry, more than a fair person should have to bear. As a long-time Picker reader (ranging back to his glory days as the 'Tribune Picker'), I must admit that he was once quite funny (intentionally) and had quite a way with words. But, his vaudeville act now has degenerated into something quite the contrary...nothing more than cynical diatribes and bursts of invective at OU which are in all probability resulting from either real or perceived slights inflicted upon him by either Stoops, Switzer or both...an interesting change of shirts from a writer who had once claimed to have 'ordered someone out of his house who had criticized Switzer.' So, those of you who wish to continue feeding his monumental ego, I wish you well although I must confess a certain sympathy for you. As for me? Please do not infer by my lack of further postings that I have nothing to say either in my own defense or in defense of my comments about said Picker, simply know that I have chosen to discontinue participating in these blogs. Enjoy, folks.

Hey Smith, quick, go put on the Sports Animal, Al and Dean are picking the Big 12 All Conference grid team.....OU guys occupy 20 of 22 spots! Wow. Should be another banner year. Unless somebody can pass.

Hey Funny, you can keep your nickname for the time being, but don't mess up.

Nobody else cares about OU's baseball collapse?

C. Lincoln looks like a good hire at Tulsa Channel 8.....local viewers might no longer have to feel like OKC groupies.

Hey Smith, come on back, man, we'll put on the OU sheets.

Bill (6 years ago)
Methinks Smitty took his OU bat and OU ball and went home.
world picker (6 years ago)
Yeah, he's working on his Ode to Stoops.

Tip of the week......in case anybody doesn't know it, The Shield on FX Tuesday is the best show in the history of television......it's so dramatic this season, I have to watch with the lights in the house on. Get season 1 and catch up.

Late night rankings:

4. Jay Lame-O, too needy.
3. Letterman, lost a step.
2. Conan, little too goofy.
1. Jimmy Kimmel, like when Letterman was Letterman.

Okay,
Dirk is human, that does not make you Nostradomus. I agree, Bob needs to lighten up, we love him. He's got a long way to go to be as hateful as Kelvin, that man had a chip on his shoulder. He talked of how good his program was yet Tulsa went to the elite 8 and sweet 16 twice before he could get to the second round of the NCAA with far superior talent, and TU had, who knows how many coaches. Which by the way, sorry, but Bill Self will never be overrated in Tulsa since he took the smallest Div. I school to seconds away from the Final 4.
But thanks for the laughs.
world picker (6 years ago)
Bill Self is a genius. He didn't win a big game at ORU and got promoted. He got to the final eight at TU because a foe broke a leg. Didn't do a thing at Illinois. Promoted again. Hasn't done a thing at KU. Is considered a hot pro prospect. The media loves Bill Self. Genius. Pure genius.

.....meant to say, in the NBA, it has to be Phoenix, right?

KEL (6 years ago)
CAN'T FIGURE IF DETROIT IS A PAPER TIGER OR A CONTENDER
TAB (6 years ago)
Whoever wins San Antonio - Phoenix has it in the bag. For all the hype, I think Nash is as overrated as Dirk. San Antonio is a smart team. People bag on the NBA for all the thuggish qualities and lack of fundamentals, yet San Antonio wins championships by breaking every bit of that mold. Detroit isn't a bad pick to win the east. A San Antonio-Detroit final would be a complete snoozer, though and would kill the ratings.
The Legend (6 years ago)
I am willing to donate to a fund to get Stoops on the list for a sense of humor transplant.

I can't think of anyone who needs one more.

john (6 years ago)
If I had to put up with all those punk sooner fans I would be in a bad mood too.
world picker (6 years ago)
Legend: What's funny/odd is the Oklahoma media is soft as marshmallows.....wait until somebody in a pro town skins him.

Revealing: A coach's mood usually reflects the quality of his team!

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
