Cam Newton Got My Vote
Published: 12/8/2010 1:24 PM

There is a big difference in believing Cam Newton knew about his father's pay-for-play scandal and not knowing if Newton knew.
In the end, we had no choice. No one gave us any evidence that Newton knew his father was shopping him around to schools.
So, Newton got my Heisman vote this week. I might regret that vote sometime in the next few years.
However, given the evidence we had, there was no reason not to vote for him.
We hope Newton is telling the truth and that he knew nothing about what his dad was doing
However, we doubt it. It seems most likely that he knew what was going on.
Just because we believe he might have cheated is not enough to deny him our vote.
The NCAA says he is eligible. So, we voted for him.
That is different than believing Newton is clean in the recruiting scandal.
As a result, this was one of the strangest Heisman votes in history.
A whole bunch of voters did what I did. Hold your nose and mark the ballot.
And, just hope Cam Newton is telling the truth.

It was the right vote with the current facts presented. Better to give it to him, then take away than not give it to him if he truly does deserve it.

Things sure have changed at the NCAA since the days of Keri Jackson. This would have warranted sanctions and no bowl games not that long ago. Anyone who thinks Cam did not know what was going on is wearing blinders!
