Can Anybody Play Defense?
Published: 10/1/2010 12:13 PM

No.

Nobody can play defense in college.

Best offense wins.

Here's why nobody can play defense.

The receivers are much better than the cornerbacks. The receivers are 6-5, the corners are 5-8 converted high school quarterbacks and running backs.

Every receiver in the OSU-Aggie game dominated the corners.

Not even the SEC can play defense. There is the illusion of defense there because nobody scores all that much.

What's up with that Aggie quarterback? He threw perfect passes or interceptions. It was like incompletions counted against you.

That was a great field goal kick. Drilling a 40-yarder on national TV is a big deal.

OU fans came out of the OSU-Aggie game a little on the quiet side because the Sooners just inherited up two very difficult road games.

Mr. Picker, why are we talking football on Ryder Cup weekend? The Ryder Cup is the most ideal competition in the universe.

Gene, it's under water isn't it?

I guess we're not talking much about the Ryder Cup beause it's on at 3 a.m. our time. Don't get over-confident on our semi-gentleman's wager.

Sam, both teams across as being much better than previously thought, particularly on offense. OSU clearly has one of the best offenses in the country, great receivers, great runner, good quarterback. The Aggies have pro receivers. Both are much, much better than Utah State or Cincy.

Mr. Picker, the sun will come out . . . tomorrow.
I'm going to start our repast with sorbet to cleanse the palete. You may order it now.

Mr. Picker, I agree this time. OkState's defense looked its age. Secondary is still wet behind the ears. They looked like they were in the 'prevent' much of the game, afraid to play bump & run. There's a good reason: if they bumped A&M receivers, the Cowboy secondary would be on their backs!

Really hope this game will help them grow up. Speed alone won't be enough when it comes to facing the best teams in the conference. On a more positive note, A&M just might be one of the better teams (sans turnovers, of course). Still, a win is a win!

Pick, all good points. I can't help but wonder how Bobby Bowden resisted the temptation from using Deion Sanders at receiver and kept him at corner for Florida State.

Sooner Sam, of course Cinci beats them in your mind. Because if not, then OU looks worse because they nearly got beat by them. And that just isn't possible in your world. Just an FYI, Cinci lost to mighty Fresno State and currently have a 1-3 record.

A&M and OSU are much better than any team OU has played yet. I'm sorry you cannot come to grips with that but it is the absolute truth.

Uh Sooner Sam, didn't watching the A&M, OSU game make YOU think the games are going to be tougher then everyone thought? Don't know what you were watching, but I saw some speed on both sides of the ball from both teams, along with one heck of a big fast wide receiver in Blackmon, throw Hunter in there and you have yourself a bonafide nightmare, then you have A&M using the exact kind of mobile QB and offense that causes OU fits. Mix in the Twilight Zone places those two play in, with what looks like a now tricky game against Baylor sandwiched. They look like tough games to me Sam. Before everyone gets excited here, know this, Texas is not very good.

Whoops must have hit a bump in the road. Sorry about the double post.

Mr. Pioker, congrats on the European Team victory in the Ryder Cup. It was a great competition. I'm going to have to win big in the Breeder's Cup to get back to level. How do I pay off our friendly wager?

SoonerSam - thru 4 games

Cincinnati - Toltal D #77 Total O - #71
Texas A&M - Toltal D #14 Total O - #6

Who would win??? YOU do the math!
The Picker (2 years ago)
Gene, Gene, Gene: Don't pretend like you don't know how to pay up. You have had so much practice. Simply call Wolfie Puck and have him bring a box of goodies on down. I'll take the field against what's her name in the Classic.

Mr. Picker, I am recovering from surgery so it is hard to get out and about. How about a check made payable to the Red Cross in full satisfaction of our friendly wager? And . . yes . . . old whats her name looks pretty good.

See, now you've done it, you made me donate to charity and send you grub.
