Can the Sooners repeat Georgia's miracle?
Published: 3/9/2010 6:38 PM

Remember the look on your got the first time you saw Jim Carrey as Fire Marshal Bill? You'd make the same face if someone told you the Oklahoma Sooners would win four Big 12 tournament games in four days.

Part comedy, pure insanity.

Well, there is a precedent (sort of).

Two years ago, the Georgia Bulldogs entered the SEC tournament with a 13-16 record. OU is 13-17.

The Bulldogs were 4-12 in the SEC that year. OU went 4-12 in the Big 12 this year.

The Dawgs had more problems than they knew what to do with. Just like the Sooners.

So what happened in Atlanta? Georgia ripped off four straight wins, saved coach Dennis Felton's job (for one year anyhow) and joined the Big Dance.

Two years later, Jeff Capel doesn't have to worry about unemployment -- it hasn't gotten nearly that dire in Norman -- but it will take another miracle for the Sooners to pull a postseason out of the abyss.

So?

"It definitely can be done," Capel said Tuesday. "Our league is a lot tougher than the SEC was two years ago, no disrespect to that league. But it definitely can be done. And we're hoping to do it."

The AD. at Oklahoma needs to stop giving away bonus money and salary increases every time one of his coaches breaks wind. Instead, find a coach that wants to roll up his sleeves and go to work. This means football and basketball. Thats what happens when you spoil them.
