Chiefs Not Ready for Prime Time

The Kansas City Chiefs climbed back into the playoffs on Sunday but it was a brief stop on what they hope is a continued climb back to the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs got stomped by Baltimore, 30-7, eliminating the closest NFL team to Tulsa from the pro football playoffs.
Kansas City is better than it has been in recent years but it is not ready for the elite of the AFC. The Chiefs have a lot of work to do to get up there with New England, the Jets, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. Those are elite NFL teams regardless of conference alignment.
The Chiefs benefited from playing the AFC West. While the AFC West isn’t as lowly and awful as the NFC West, the AFC’s elite teams are far better than the top of the NFC.
So, Kansas City is one and done as it hopes to bring back some excitement to a fan base that has a strong outpost in northeastern Oklahoma.
The Chiefs played in the first Super Bowl and won Super Bowl IV in Jan. 1970. Arrowhead Stadium was built in 1972.
A three-time AFL champion in the 1960s has one of the most loyal fan bases in the NFL.
Kansas City was cool for pro football fans back in the 1960s all the way through the 1990s.
However, the Chiefs continued failures finally wore down its fan base and Arrowhead Stadium, once the loudest and rowdiest in pro football, became just another stadium with a lot of empty seats in the early 2000s.
The 2010 season has renewed some of the enthusiasm and promise for the Chiefs. But, winning a playoff game, instead of just reaching one, is what Kansas City would love most.

Everyone outside of Kansas City and the Chiefs fan base knew this.
