Chili Bowl A Tasty Treat for Racers

Any question about the importance of the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in auto racing was answered at a Tuesday press conference in Tulsa.
In a pre-race press conference, the three drivers were Tony Stewart, reigning NASCAR Sprint Cup champion, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., reigning NASCAR Nationwide Series champion, and Kevin Swindell, reigning two-time Chili Bowl champion.
In other words, the 26th Chili Bowl still attracts the top drivers from all over the auto racing universe.
There are 19 reigning champions from a wide variety of racing in this week’s event at the QuikTrip Center.
This has always been one of the few events in auto racing that draws champions from all types of racing.
The reasons are simple. For starters, the date is perfect. The Chili Bowl is the first major event of the race season, coming weeks before any of the regular racing series around the country get underway.
Secondly, the Chili Bowl has a terrific reputation for being a racer’s kind of race. Everybody is in the same boat. Equipment may help but driving skill and handling is appear to be more important.
Finally, racers love to go back to their roots and there is no more basic racing than midget cars on a short dirt track.
NASCAR champ Tony Stewart likes to say he loves the Chili Bowl for the challenge and the fun.
Whatever the reasons, the Chili Bowl is bringing in the top stars again this year. Just like it always does.

The Chili Bowl will ruin racing for you for the rest of the year: You won't find any racing that's more exciting. Everything else will be an anti-climax.
