Chillin’

In a little more than two weeks, I’ll be heading to Arizona for the Insight Bowl. The Valley of the Sun will be a nice respite from home in Tulsa, which has been battered this week by this ice storm for the ages.
Just after 5:45 a.m. Monday, a big limb came falling out of a tree in my backyard and knocked off the power line, phone line and Cox cable television line connected to my home in midtown Tulsa. Life has not been the same since that moment. Life has not been the same for hundreds of thousands of Tulsa area and Oklahoma residents this week.
My wife Jennifer and I have been able to take shelter at my parents’ residence in south Tulsa, which has power, and tried to live a “normal” life under abnormal conditions. But it will not be until Monday at the earliest before an electrician can reconnect our power lines. We are lucky that no huge tree limbs or branches came crashing through our roof or windows. Many people, though, were not as lucky.
Maybe in the next few days I’ll get back on and address a variety of OSU topics including Larry Fedora’s departure (very good hire by Southern Miss, interesting days ahead for Mike Gundy), the Insight Bowl game against Indiana (how much will OSU be motivated for a motivated Hoosiers squad), the chance the Insight Bowl will not be televised on free TV in Tulsa (the greedy NFL Network strikes again), OSU’s recruiting efforts (interesting to see the high number of junior college prospects the Cowboys are evaluating) and maybe dabble in a little wrestling insight (tough loss last weekend vs. Penn State).
Stay warm and hopefully all of us can return to living normal lives in the next few days.
