PGA:
If the temperature moves to 105, and the elderly and chubby people as well begin toppling off the hillsides beside the 9th and 18th greens at Southern Hills, will play be postponed?
They suspend action for lightning.
When alerts are issued for what the experts call insane heat, aren’t you supposed to stay inside like all the media people in their air-conditioned tent?
Think the CBS intro-music will mention the weather?
If the temperature crests 110 degrees, they should start the teeing off process at 5 a.m.
You can’t blame us. Oklahomans handle extreme heat better than anybody. The PGA said it would love to come here in August. So here we go.
While on the subject of golf, has anybody seen the Southern Hills logo, that clock that is on the gear and publicity material? For the Open, the logo was a bird. Birds, I can find. Maybe the clock tower is the caddy shack.
These are the picks: Stricker, Tiger and Toms in a tie, with Stricker winning in extra holes.
If anybody sees John Daly, be sure and tell him to drink two gallons of water before teeing off.
FOOTBALL:
This promises to be a critical year for OU assistant coaches, former and current.
Most former OU assistants are hanging to their head coaching jobs by their fingernails. Leach is great at offense and is loved at Tech. Mike Stoops is a near-bust at Arizona and needs to turn on the victories this year. Big Mark is so-so at KU. Chuck “Fourth and” Long is already on thin ice out west.
Current OU assistants also need to perform.
Offensive coordinator Wilson made the quote of the decade saying, after a visit to New England, that he wasn’t impressed with Tom Brady’s arm strength. Heaven help us all.
Wilson is from Northwestern, which had a brief decent span because of a single quarterback’s talent, not any grand scheme. The OU offensive coordinator needs to guard against extreme conservatism.
Defensive coordinator Venables needs to prove that he can stop a decent team from passing with ease.

There you go, again, Picker. Always dwelling on the negative. Must have been a lonely, bitter childhood, huh. But it's ok, now. We like your witty, glass-half-empty blogs. Yes, everything's gonna be ok.

If I see Daly, I'll buy him a beer and hand him a ciggy. Former OU assistants...sometimes the grass isn't always greener. OSU's and TU's current assistants seem to be having fun on the job. By the way, wasn't someone posting on here that the NBA was bigger than the PGA? Perhaps "T-Town" has a triple context this week?

Dear Backhand: Explain this. Why am I always right?

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
