Clemens Not Believable
Published: 2/14/2008 9:29 AM

Brian McNamee is no saint and admitted he has lied in the past.
But Roger Clemens, who continued to deny any link to performance-enhancing drugs, did his credibility no favor during Wednesday's hearing before the House Committee Oversight and Government Reform.
It seemed strange that the split on who to believe came down to party lines. The Republicans seemed to believe Clemens. Domocrats seemed to come down on the sidce of McNamee.
However, in the court of public opinion, McNamee seems to have won the day.
He told his story, backed up allegedly by sworn statements from former Clemens' teammates friends Andy Pettitte and Chuck Knobluach.
And, the story of how Clemens' wife was injected with HGH, without Clemens knowing, seemed somewhat of a stretch.
As a result, what little evidence or testimony there is, would seem to side with McNamee.
No one may ever go to trial for lying to congress on Wednesday but someone was definitely lying.
McNamee would seem to have little or no reason to lie. Clemens, of course, would be motivated to clear his name.
Either way, the best hitter (Barry Bonds) and pitcher (Clemens) of this era in baseball are no fully painted with the brush of suspicion of cheating.

Republicans also believed Scooter Libby, while Dems believed Valerie Plame. So I guess the Republicans have a recent history of trusting liars.

Well the same goes for democrats. they believed bill clinton and Ted Kennedy when he said he couldn't help mary jo. the difference is scooter went to jail and bill didn't. with all the problems this country has and they are worried about steroids. i wish they would care as much about the bigger problems like real drug usage and open borders.

Whatever happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? You have the right to have your opinion about the truthfulness of Clemens. However, there is no proof that he lied. On the other hand, they did demonstrate in the hearings that McNamee’s stories were not consistent with what he said or in other words, he lied. Thus, McNamee is a liar. The backup to McNamee stories were not there and cannot swear that anything happened. As for McNamee not having a reason to lie, something seems shaky when a “former” trainer is testifying against someone. My question starts with – why is McNamee the “former” instead of the present? (Oh, by the way, I am a democrat.)
