Coaches Have CB Handles?
Published: 11/27/2008 10:18 AM

Three sports appetizers on Thanksgiving Day:
--Coaches despise anonymous people who hide behind CB handles (that's a 1970s reference, folks) and spew venom on talk radio or Internet forums.
Therefore, you would think the last thing any coach would want to be is anonymous. And you would be wrong.
Seven Big 12 coaches have votes in the coaches' poll. Five of them chose not to reveal how they voted during a Big 12 teleconference Monday.
Only their final vote is public. In the meantime, they can anonymously rank teams as high or as low as they want, which makes them the same species as the people they despise.
--Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb will play a nationally televised Thanksgiving game and, of course, a central topic will be his benching last week.
Missing part of a game lwas only the second-worst thing to happen to McNabb.
When an NFL starting quarterback gets benched, media folks swarm around the locker room to get reaction quotes and speculation runs rampant that the quarterback’s career is over.
That can’t be any fun, but it’s probably great incentive to play better.
--Naming Will Muschamp as the head coach designate at Texas seems to be a bad idea. Muschamp might be a great coach and maybe he's the best man for the job right now.
But Muschamp might be the 30th-best man for the job when it finally comes open and won't Texas fans want the best coach money can buy?
