Colorado's parting word: "Venables"
Published: 10/31/2010 11:10 PM

Honestly, Colorado had nothing to offer the latest night in Owen Field history over the weekend. Their fans didn’t show. Their players didn’t show. Ralphie didn’t show.

This, thankfully, is where the sporting press can occasionally save us. Here’s what Kyle Ringo of the Boulder Daily Camera wrote before packing up his laptop sometime early Sunday morning:

“All signs point to Colorado being in the market for a new football coach some time in the next month. Athletic director Mike Bohn and chancellor Phil DiStefano have valued previous head-coaching experience when hiring head coaches in the past, but if they stray from that philosophy this time around, one possible consideration was on the home sideline Saturday in Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium coaching against the Buffs.

“Oklahoma associate head coach and defensive coordinator Brent Venables could be a candidate Colorado officials consider.

“Venables has the credentials to move up the next rung on the career ladder and has been mentioned for various openings around the country for several years now.”

Interesting. Everything I’ve read or heard since Dan Hawkins became Dead Coach Walking centered on Bill McCartney returning to the job. That would be more bizarre than Bill Snyder coming back to Kansas State, but it’s the prevailing buzz just the same.

Could Venables swoop in and steal some of that thunder? Would he even care to?

No idea. Seems a little early to start handicapping any coaches derby. Still, a connection has been made. And it was by far the most interesting thing to come out of Colorado’s visit to Norman.

If I were Venables, I wouldn't take the Colorado job. But then again, I'm not him. If he did leave, I have a feeling Bob would probably go after his brother Mark for Def. Coordinator.

Now, if CU wants to be succesful in the PAC-10, Mike Leach is available.

Please take the creator of the highest scoring offense in NCAA history with you.... OR....

Maybe T-Tech or KU would be a good spot for Kevin Wilson....

Since they're going to the Pac 10, I think CU will go after Mike Bellotti, who coincidentally called the game for ESPN.

Venables would take Colorado job if offered. Doubt it will be. Wilson? His credentials warrant much higher profile coaching job then Texas Tech or Kansas. Michigan would have been perfect spot for him, looks like richrod will hang on for one more year though. Tech is sinking back to their accustomed spot, and Kansas? Showed they have no interest in being football school when they fired the fat man.

I'm a Sooner fan. We can only hope Colorado is stupid enough to go after him. You can bet if they get him he will have one of the worst pass defenses there also.

Really broozer? I think he will be a success.
