Come Back Lighter Gundy

Has there ever been a sourer group of individuals than football coaches, college or pro?

Remember when Bob Stoops was hired? All the smiles and laughter?

Anymore it's all no-comment, none of your business, end of press conference.

Since Switzer, nobody in coaching seems to have said anything funny, even smiled much.

Alabama's Saban appears to have forgotten how to smile. Is there a pro coach with a semblance of a sense of humor?

OSU's Mike Gundy is the most recent to join the sourpuss league. Remember when he danced with the players after big wins? Now where is he, out talking to ADs of other schools about jobs?

Gundy is probably in a foul mood because emeritus coach Pickens sure didn't pay for any 7-5 records and chump bowls. And Gundy is probably cranky because he doesn't get to play three miserable non-conference games in Stillwater.

Get over the scheduling squabble. Playing losers is for the second-class citizens of the world. You think your players want to play dogs? Playing three nobodys is selfish from a coach's perspective, period.

How can an entire group of people appear so mad?

Perhaps it is because they know down deep that they don't deserve the outrageous salaries.

Part of the problem is that they are constantly second guessed, critisized, and verbally abused by a bunch of know-nothing fans and sportswriters.

Picker's picks are not doing well. Pick still has room to have an ok card, better win out to avoid embarrassment.
Merry Christmas.

As a OSU fan I would like to see some better NC games myself , That Being Said dont forget that the Purple Cats just north of here ,feasted on a lot of little fish themselves over the tenure of coach BIll!

I often wonder what would happen if these coaches were suddenly ignored.

Coaches actions speak louder than words and often the words turn out to be, more or less, lies. I assume this is considered acceptable in the trade, as they pretty much all follow the same lines.

Does anybody know a happy coach?

We should go back to the good old days of happy coaches like Woody Hayes.

Uhhh, and the Picker doesn't sound very happy either.

Pay me $5 million a year and you couldn't wipe the smile off my face

The reason Switzer was so "happy" do much was because he was high or drunk 99% of the time!

Right hoot.... and he was busy beatin the devil out of our little sister in Stillwater AND Texas AND Nebraska and winning 83% of all games and knocking down 3 National Championships. Oh and by the way, old drunk Switzer is a multi-millionaire. Jealousy doesn't look good on you bud.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
