According to the statement released by the school, Oklahoma State wide receiver Artrell Woods is resting comfortably in an Oklahoma City hospital after suffering a significant back injury.
Whether Woods plays football this season or in the future is not an issue at this time.
Yet with Woods' status for this fall extremely doubtful, the Cowboys suddenly have some questions behind standout Adarius Bowman at receiver. Despite catching only two passes as a freshman last fall, Woods was the star of the spring for the Cowboys and expected to provide a strong alternative for quarterback Bobby Reid in the passing game away from Bowman.
Woods' injury now means two-thirds of OSU's top three receivers at the conclusion of spring practice are no longer available. Senior Anthony Parks transferred after the spring semester to Central Missouri State.
The remainder of the OSU receiving corps is young and raw. Redshirt sophomore Jeremy Broadway missed all of last season with a broken wrist. Incoming freshmen Dez Bryant and Damian Davis bring impressive prep credentials to Stillwater. Reid has stated both will have an instant impact this fall. Another true freshman, Josh Cooper, could surprise.
But will this inexperience after Bowman at receiver curtail the nation's most exciting offense?
We know Reid has a strong rapport with Bowman and had it developing with Woods this spring. It remains to be seen if these young receivers can develop a strong rapport with Reid in the weeks leading up to the opener at Georgia.
