Conference USA has been great fit for TU

Tulsa joined Conference USA in the fall of 2005 and immediately won the football title.

It was the start of something big for the Golden Hurricane.

Tulsa won C-USA by winning on the road in the league title game at Central Florida. Then, it came to Memphis and won the Liberty Bowl over Fresno State.

Tulsa was back in Memphis this week as the Conference USA champ and beat Iowa State, 31-17.

When the Golden Hurricane came to the Liberty Bowl in 2005, there were high hopes for the future of C-USA.

Seven years later, Tulsa football is in the same spot but the league is not.

Conference USA faces an uncertain future. And, there’s some uncertainty about the future league home of Tulsa.

However, there is no doubt that Conference USA has been a terrific fit for Tulsa.

Since joining the league, Tulsa has won 48 Conference USA championships. That is, by far, the best record in the conference since 2005.

The next closest behind Tulsa over the last seven years is Memphis and Rice with 22 C-USA titles.

Tulsa won eight Conference USA titles last year.

So far this year, TU has won five (football, men’s cross country, men’s soccer and both the regular season and postseason titles in volleyball.
