People love to criticize the OSSAA for all sorts of reasons (usually it depends on whose ox is getting gored), but the governing body of Oklahoma high school athletics should be praised for postponing this weekend's high school football playoff games.
Snow and ice have made driving conditions dangerous. People in Oklahoma are passionate about high school sports and, bad roads or not, many folks would have risked life and limb to go watch their favorite teams play in state championship or state semifinal games.
By postponing playoff games, the OSSAA saved many people from making treacherous drives. It's not too much of a stretch to say that lives were saved, perhaps even yours.
Thanks for the OSSAA for making a decision rooted in common sense.
Plus, no championship should be decided on a skating rink unless it's a hockey game. Props to the OSSAA for letting kids, rather than the elements, determine a winner.
Just for the sake of balance, let's throw in one criticism. The OSSAA often stages championship events at venues without a press-accessible phone. Alexander Graham Bell invented the phone in 1876. Let's get up to speed and make it mandatory for sites that host championships to install a phone line, or else.
