Could Sorenson be a Slash?

What do you do if you implement a new pass-happy system and you don't have enough receivers? You manufacture more.

That's why I was only mildly surprised to read in an OSU practice report today that first-year freshman quarterback Nate Sorenson got a look at receiver in Oklahoma State's Wednesday practice.

Sorenson was among the nation's top 50 quarterback prospects in high school. Perhaps his long-term future is still at QB. OSU coaches stopped short of calling the switch to receiver a permanent move, according to a sports information spokesperson.

But, in the meanwhile, why not make use of a fleet-footed guy who has skills other than throwing a football? Sorenson could be OSU's "Slash."

For all you young folks out there, "Slash" was a label attached to Pittsburgh Steelers receiver/quarterback Kordell Stewart in the 1990s. Sorenson was born in 1991, which should make most of us feel really old.

Jimmie, I was thinking along the same lines whenever I read that Walsh had given his verbal commitment to OSU.

What will OSU do with four quarterbacks? And what to do with a lack of wide receiver depth? Most of these quarterbacks were recruited to follow in the mold of Robinson - dual threat guys.

If OSU wants to put the "best eleven" out there, then it stands to reason that Sorenson will get a good look at wide receiver.

his name escapes me, but it certainly worked well for Kansas a couple years ago when one of their most consistent WRs was the 2nd-string QB.
