Cowboys Face Many Questions
Published: 1/14/2008 4:43 PM

Since the NFL went to the modern playoff system, the No. 1 seeds in the playoffs were 17-0 - until Sunday.
The Cowboys became the first No. 1 seed to lose in the current playoff system when they were beaten by the New York Giants.
The 13-3 season, and all of the talk about the revival of one of the NFL's most storied franchises, is over.
Now, the debate about Tony Romo, his off-the-field dating habits, his performance in two dismal playoff losses the last two years, and the collapse of a high-powered offense will be topic until next season.
The Cowboys have 12 pro bowlers, more than any other team in the NFL.
Either Dallas was a classic collapse of a great team or the Cowboys are far over-rated.
Either way, Dallas has yet to regain its swagger of the 1990s when it was the best team in the NFL.
It has been 11 years since the Cowboys won a playoff game. For much of that time, Dallas wasn't even a competitive franchise.
That changed the last two years as Romo became an elite quarterback. However, until Romo and the Cowboys get over the playoff hump with at least one victory, Dallas will be considered an underachiever.

As are all "All-Star" games, the Pro Bowl is more of a popularity contest than a reflection of the greatness of a team. That's why Tom Brady wasn't a Pro Bowler in 2007 (that's right, but Vince Young and Philip Rivers both were for the AFC) and why Jacksonville has only a lone reserve (Fred Taylor) this year. In fact, Jacksonville matches every single position player to Dallas except at TE (Witten). For example, compare the identical stats of Dallas SS Hamlin and J-ville SS Nelson.
Although I'm certainly no J-ville fan, I see two different teams with very similar talent and very different hype.

The Dallas Cowboys downfall began a long time ago with the firing of former OSU coach Jimmy Johnson.

JJ was the architect of Dallas dominance back in the 90s and Jerry Jones (another JJ) couldn't stand to have someone steal his thunder.

Switzer, without Johnson's players, would never have won on his own. He was a proven putz.

Since then, Jerry Jones has tried and failed to run the team on his own.
Jerry messed up big time by forcing Jimmy Johnson out and the Dallas Cowboys have never regained the swagger they had with Jimmy Johnson.

The Cowboys need a strong headcoach. I thought Parcells may be the one, but even Bill couldn't deal with Jones.

Dallas will continue to underachieve until the Curse Of Jimmy's Firing is removed.
