Cowboys are a Thrill-a-Minute

Oklahoma State's football team had a well-earned reputation for playing close, exciting games last fall.
The problem for OSU football fans was that the Cowboys didn't win enough of those close games. If the Cowboys had won more of those close games, losing four times on the final play of the game, then OSU would have found itself in a major bowl.
Still, every time you tunred on the Cowboys they were involved in some great game.
Unfortunately, so often it resulted in heartache.
Well, the OSU men's basketball seem to be following the same script. However, unlike football, the basketballers seem to have changed the ending.
It could be argued that O-State has already played two of the most exciting, well-played and dramatic basketball games of the season.
And, most importantly to OSU fans, the Cowboys won both.
It would be hard to top OSU's triple-overtime thriller over Texas. Or, how about the overtime drama in the victory over Pitt.
Those are two of the best teams in the country and both played at peak level against the Cowboys.
It says much about the current Cowboys that it not only is competitive but good enough to beat such talented teams in great games.
The Cowboys may be awfully thin. They just don't have much depth.
But they have been so good in big games (with the exception of the loss at Kansas) that there should be a lot of optimism for the remainder of the season.
OSU has a great six or seven-player rotation. It should be enough to make the Cowboys a very tough out in the NCAA Tournament.

The Texas game was a truly remarkable game! When the game went into overtime I thought the momentum and advantage was with Texas because OSUs thin bench was already scrapped to the bone with Cooper sick and Dove & Eaton fouled out. To play that well as a team for that long under those circumstances says a whole lot about the character and will of this team. John, do you know what happened to A. Bowman? He played a little in the Kansas game. Was he not available for this game? What would have happened if one of the OSU players had fouled out in overtime when there was apparently nobody left on the bench?

No doubt Bowman played at Kansas only because the game was out of reach and putting him in gave him some game experience. I imagine he would have gone in only if no one else was available.

John, it is a very interesting comparision between this year's OSU basketball and football teams. However, the same could be said between this year's football team and last year's basketball team. The 05-06 basketball team was in many tight games last year and lost almost all of them. Very similar to this year's football team, they couldn't seem to make the big plays at the end of the game to claim a victory. I think it's safe to say their inexperience at the Division 1 level and playing together had a lot to do with the close losses. Sounds familiar huh?

Hopefully, the same change in winning close games on the court this year will occur on the field next year. One more year of experience and their Independence Bowl victory in a close game should help football team's confidence and create the "habit of winning" that is so critical.

Thanks for your professionalism and great reporting!
